THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

Thanks for the advice. but from what I have read the 6 inch flue collar is the external diameter and the internal is 4.5 - 5 in inch. Could you post a link to the correct one if possible? Thanks

A six inch flue collar. Make up the gap with glass fibre rope and seal with high temperature silicone. You need the flex of the silicone to allow for expansion and contraction of the flue, relative to the boat steelwork. Otherwise it will put a lot of stress on the stove. Cast iron stoves can crack from that.

At a guess from the rear swim R&D. There was another earlier builder that first used that swim style, that was Davidson Brothers but I think they may have finished by 1995.

Hi Blackrose Very Interesting and food for thought. Our boatyard did the last blacking for us and I will pass on your info and see what they come up with. I am thinking now as you said it might protect the hull further that some hand painting with a little pot of blacking may be the best way forward and to improve my steering skills so we avoid the issue in the first place! Hi, Excuse my ignorance. I have a 5 inch flue need to exit the roof but there doesn't seem to be a caste iron collar that allows this size to pass straight through. So, my question is, why isn't there a collar available and what do folk with 5 inch single skin flues use instead Thanks in advance Andy

Hi everyone, I’ve owned my narrowboat for 5 years now and am trying to track down its history, specifically the original shell builder and model/fitter for new insurance. Unfortunately, the CRT/British Waterways records have the builder listed as "Unknown". The engine has been replaced over the years, and I don't have any older paper BSS certificates to look back on. Here are the official specs and everything I know so far: CRT Index Number: 500442 Registered Name: Unicorn Build Year: 1995 (Log indicates it was officially indexed in the late 90s/early 00s) Length: 60ft (18.29m) Width: 7ft (2.13m) Stern Style: Traditional Visual & Physical Clues: It features an elegant, long underwater swim and a traditional stern deck configuration. The bow profile has a classic, slightly upright but elongated stem post curve meeting a flat bottom. There are no obvious stamped yard numbers on the vertical walls or rims inside the forward gas locker or on the weed hatch rim itself. Inside the engine room, there is a distinct, small, welded "V" mark directly on the bulkhead behind the centre line of the weed hatch clamping bar—though this looks like it might just be a factory alignment guide or worker's tally mark rather than a specific builder signature. I've attached photos showing the side profile, the bow/cabin lines, the traditional stern layout, the hull shape while lifted on a trailer, and a close-up of the weed hatch assembly. Given the 1995 build date and the 60ft traditional layout, does anyone recognise the steelwork lines or know of any yards (like Colecraft, Liverpool Boats, or others from that era) that regularly used this specific weed hatch clamp design or hull profile? Any leads on the original fit-out history for 'Unicorn' would be massively appreciated! Thanks in advance for any help!

It would not put me off provided it is in good working order, ie not smoking, not noisy and the oil analysis is satisfactory. Hire boats may get a bit of abuse from novice boaters, but the hire base will generally ensure it is serviced regularly. Google the engine lots of info. My Isuzu has only 4400hours, barely run in, lol. I dont think you would find a replacement easily, thats the problem.
