Small, local, friendly and above all, free folk festival at the King's Lock in Middlewich.

Might have gone, if I hadn't already got two week-long folk festivals in August (Sidmouth and Whitby)... 😉

It's a little local affair, mostly folk club players from the local clubs, no big headline acts. I've always liked that sort of thing. It was what the original Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival was all about before a couple of idiots thought they could make some money out of it, then the council thought they could make it a big festival and lost a fortune and another pair of numbnuts copyrighted the name, moved it out of town onto a field and finished it off. It's just a folky weekend in a marquee outside a nice pub.

Yeah I knew about the history, and why they can't use the original name -- egos gone mad... 😞

Unfortunately it clashes with Fairport Cropredy or I would have gone. I went to the new out of town set up last year and nothing like the old Folk and Boat Festival.

This is run by Lizzie who runs the monthly folk gathering at the Boars Head in Middlewich and made a valiant but failed atempt to rescue the council's disastrous intervention. Middlewich had an in- town festival this year on the usual Folk &Boat days but it was all tribute bands etc, virtually no folk music.
