THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH May 17
THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

Do you have inside information on that? I don't think they use Flightradar

putting some reasonable load on the 12V domestics might push the alaternator a bit more. turn off the trickle charger for a start and then if you have an inverter maybe run some mains stuff and see what the clamp meter reads with some extra load on it, with the engine at something like 1200 RPM. something that will pull a good few amps like a toaster or vacuum.

A washer-dryer is pretty power hungry (~3kWh/load), and takes several hours (4-6hrs) to do a full wash/dry cycle. If you don't want to be running an engine/generator for hours to provide the power -- expensive and inefficient, especially using the engine -- you'll need a lot of solar and a decent-sized battery bank/inverter . Perfectly doable on a narrowboat so long as you don't mind covering a lot of the roof with it, which many people don't want to do. LFP batteries are not essential, but are much more user-friendly with high-power loads, and make much better use of any power you do get from solar (or an engine/generator) with better efficiency and shorter running times. I do have a washer-drier on board, also induction hob, electric oven, toaster, microwave -- but then my boat is a series hybrid so I've already got the big/expensive LFP battery bank/inverter/solar/generator needed for propulsion, so high-power electric appliances like a washer-drier are "free", and their power/energy use is considerably less than propulsion -- about the same as an hour's cruising. OTOH on a diesel boat a lot of this doesn't really make sense, the cost to provide the high-power infrastructure just for this (going gas-free, washer-drier etc) would be very high -- which is why most boats don't do it... 😉

Should also be mentioned that this country that was 'formed' existed beforehand, sadly for the Zionists it was already populated by Palestinians. People get exercised in this country over immigration but then imagine just how much more exercised they would get if the stated intention of those immigrants was to remove the 'native' people from what they then regard as 'their' land. Personally I'd go further than the Green Party policy and declare Israel to be a terrorist state. They were born out of terrorism (Stern Gang and Irgun), are happy to commit war crimes, let's start with the Sabra and Shatila massacre and continue to the present day. They were happy to allow finance to get to Hamas whilst blocking it to the Palestinian Authority. They now support groups within Gaza with connections to Daesh/ISIS, I rather hope that they get their *rses bitten again. I don't see much that makes them any better than Iran who do exactly what the Israelis do,support groups that serve their own interests (Houthi, Hezbollah, etc). I'm now past caring what happens to Israel as a nation but strongly object to true anti-semitism directed at Jewish people who are not Israeli. By their actions, the Israelis have now lost the 'right' to claim opposition to Israel is somehow 'anti-semetic', it isn't, it is now a moral position.

yes seen the same issue at a dry dock, which used stop planks. they had to jam them down to stop them floating up, once the dock was emptying, then they could 'ash' them to seal. I thought i'd read somewhere that CRT where trialling or were using some form of metal adjustable stop plank, I can imagine some alloy version being able to be adjusted in length and fairly easy to deploy. maybe i'm making that up ? :-)
