THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH May 17
THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

You will have read the struggles i have had with my 12v Dometic. Currently testing removal of the ice compartment and using it as a larder fridge. The ice compartment is an innovation. ;) The main thing must be to have ventilation preferably from the bilges, in at the bottom and exiting freely all round. use a thermometer, the buttons are a guideline : Not very Cool 10C Cooler 8-10C Cool, often 8C, (should be 5C) ☆ Freezer activated There are box type fridges which are top entry, the cold air is not displaced every time you access, but i doubt if they will fit, worth a look.

Having done much research into canal construction, there seem to have been very few fatal accidents, apart from during tunnelling, which was very much a rapidly developing trade. Most canal construction work was very similar to that done by craftsmen for centuries, and a good craftsman is careful of his and his co-workers safety. The real need for H&S developed in the mid 19th century with the rise of managers who did not have the skills of the workers they were controlling, often demanding what were unsafe practices. I have wondered why H&S staff generally use cars when public transport is safer.

I need help! We hope to come down to Kelpie later this month and she badly needs a new fridge. To be honest she has needed one for years but despite visiting Midland Chandlers and Googling I couldn't find one which will fit. I don't have the exact measurements here but from memory the width is 50cm and the height must be less than 80cms. My plan is to arm myself with likely suppliers and order one when we get to the boat and do some measuring and have it delivered and the old one taken away. It must be 12v and fit in the available space . I like at least 2 shelves and bits on the door for storage. A freezer is not essential as I have only used the existing one few times over the years we have owned the boat. If having to buy a smaller fridge than we have is necessary I can take down a cool box to help for the first few days when the fridge is jam packed full. I realise that what I am looking for will not be cheap but the state of the existing fridge makes the purchase necessary. Thank you if you have read this far and it would be really helpful to get suggestions of recommended makes/supplies or ones to avoid. I know, I should have brought the exact measurements home but I have done a lot of Googling with the information I have and it is a bewildering world out there :-) Many thanks, Haggis
