Imaginative boat names

Featured Posts

Hecla and I once had a discussion about boat names in historical documents and the name PERSERVERANCE was common.  But with modern boats there seems to be a host if different and clever names. I came across this boat on the Trent & Mersey, which had a certain humour.

This one is very topical.

However my all time favourite is "Canalgesic".

I'm surprised no one has thought of "Narrow Escape"... 😁

My favourite was Fire Escape moored at the bottom of a garden. I was surprised the new owner of our boat kept the name when he repainted it. Nackered Navvy

I did see a Pissed 'n Broke which is a bit like telling the joke and then having to explain the punch line.

I always wanted to call ours Nota Bene but the crew wouldn't let me - said it was too sub-tull. 🤔

The original name of our boat was very similar :-

Since then it has been renamed twice, firstly to "Napton" around 1990 and then to Helvetia in 1997 by us. The new owners have chosen to keep the name.

I wanted to rename ours Triggers Broom as it's been fully oveplated, new engine and gearbox, water pump, batteries. We're putting in a new galley including cooker.

But she who must be obeyed wants to stick with Dream Wanderer!

I can't find the picture right now but there is a Broads boat in Norfolk called Norfolk Enchants.

A few that we see on the Foss Ditch on a regular basis :

Miss Chief

Lunar Sea

Devocean

Nauti Buoy

Miss Conduct
