  1. Good grief! We are in the middle of a national crisis and you expected C&RT to respond to you apparently almost immediately at the weekend!!!! Why the need to "scream and shout" at them ? You have repeatedly complained of not getting emails etc from them but you have never acknowledged or replied to the many messages on here telling you how to register to get them . Why?? Folk on here have repeatedly given you advice and asked what questions you want answered as they might be able to help but you ignore these messages. Why?? I think it is time for us to scream and shout at you to stop being such a diva demanding attention and for you to give C&RT some slack in these difficult times for them as well as us. haggis

  2. I am in the same marina, as pictured. At a guess there must be about 200 boats of all descriptions and maybe about 20/25 liveaboard boats scattered around. I know LadyG and almost every other liveaboard. This is the best marina i have ever moored in and I've been in a few. Of course as in all marinas there can be strife between neighbours but things have got pretty bad in that particular corner of the yard. It seems to me they never really hit it off from the start, and has continued to deteriorate. It could have been so different. Yes there are one or two rough diamonds as in any yard but believe me they would do anything for you if in a fix, if approached in the right way. I personally haven't seen any particular contravention of the social distancing rules but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened, and in fact I did notice how they were ' socializing at a distance' in the sunshine yesterday. Narrowboats moored stern to bank and only 2ft between means that things could be awkward at times especially at this time. The owner of the Marina would I'm certain step in if approached and try and move you to another berth, perhaps at the office end of the yard. I'm sure someone would do a swap, you've got a good mooring there. As for leaving the yard due to all this, wouldn't you be acting a little prematurely. Are you ready to go "self sufficient" ? Anyway I've rambled on long enough. My advice, chill, at least for now. If you don't you will go bananas in a marina surrounded by people you're not getting on with.

  4. You cannot justify your behaviour, it still stinks. If you had listened to advice here you would not need to have called CRT who are extremely busy at the moment trying to answer other idiots as well as genuine callers.

  8. Unusualy for me after over 30 years living aboard I find myself in a house a few days before the lockdown. I will probably stay here for the forseeable future. Its a proper detached house as in nearest house on this side of the road is 500 yards one direction and 2 miles in the other direction. I could self isolate no problem if I didnt need to go shopping lol but still would prefer to be on mi boat at my secure offside mooring. I just am so thankful i dont live in a flat or one of those housing estates with dozens of others who are all going stir crazy locked up with their kids. In fairness though I reckon many parents are doing a great job at present, like two of my daughters doing the home schooling thing whilst still doing their NHS jobs. They are not heroes and would hate anyone saying they were but isnt it nice to see them getting recognition for once instead of calling footballers hero's

  9. If ever there was a request that should have been emailed, this was it. Harassing the day-to-day call centres is stupid. Calling the emergency number (some of which is covered by the ambulance services, or at least used to be) when they are fielding a fast growing number of emergency medical calls is so far out of order I don't have words for it.

  10. Have you seen the news at all in the last month? Do you really think you are more important than the lives of the CRT staff?

  11. You really are coming over as a petulant begger. All we are getting from you is I WANT, I WANT. You really need to get of your high horse, look at the current situation and realise that you aren't the centre of attention.

  12. You sound like the ideal moorer, the kind that every Marina operator would want and the kind of person everyone would like to be berthed next to. Hopefully you'll go continuous cruising, so when someone upsets you, you can move on. I suspect you'll be the model CCer and never break the overstay rule.

  13. I have to agree with Chagall, there is no excuse for screaming and shouting at ANY company employee on the phone. EVER. Hear hear, well said.

  24. In a previous life, as a contractors plant mechanic, I found the first thing to go missing on the fleet of road compressors, was the spade ignition key. The operators soon found out the engine dipstick doubled as a great ignition key. Then, when the switch no longer operated, due to the stresses put upon it, they found the same dipstick could be used jump straight across the solenoid terminals. Then, when the end of the dipstick finally burned away, too much oil was poured into the oil filler. Then.........

  28. I just thought I would post these pictures for the sake of future researchers. I did this with stencils from The Graphics Boat and Craftsmaster signwriting enamel. Michelle from The Graphics Boat was very helpful and was happy to tweak what was available on their website slightly for me. The actual painting part was very, very easy. The hard part is the planning, positioning and applying. Anyway, chuffed to bits. My crappy pictures don't do it justice.

  31. Sounds like "living the dream" maybe is not what she expected. She has had the boat a short while and has never been out on it as this Post was about her first trip out. What she going to do if when she goes out and she does not like that also? Just like she seams not to like being in the Marina. There may be a boat in Goole going cheap soon and another Newbie finding that the reality of living on a boat is not what is depicted on TV and YouTube.

  33. You are avoiding socialising but want to go shopping every day? The guidelines are to shop as infrequently as possible, I don’t think that means daily.

  34. I used to be a nurse, and as only qualified on duty they asked me to do a long day, 7 till 10 shift, but as I hadn't brought anything in for a meal later on, I asked the domestic , who was going out for lunch to the shops if she could get me some mince, and if she could get me some spaghetti, gave her a fiver. Later on after her return, she said I wasn't sure what mints you wanted so I got you some chewing gum ones and trebor, I didn't see any spaghetti selling shops, is that ok. Lovely lady, but true story.

  35. If the marina has no residential moorings, one wonders why it is open at all. Bit of a headache for marina managers up and down the land, who have filled their leisure marinas with unofficial liveaboards.

  40. I’ve resurrected this thread to post the link below which is to an article that gives the history of the house at Napton Junction. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/564a5d6be4b0da3c3b0864c4/t/565f77eee4b052d551489625/1449097198382/Wigrams+History.pdf I suspect some members may have seen the article before but my memory was jogged this morning by my own family research that revealed the fate of the son of Alfred Charles and Gertrude Neal who lived in the house through the 1920s and 30s and are referenced in the article. (Alfred) Bernard Neal unfortunately met his death aged just 21 when the Free French Navy ship Mimosa was sunk by U-boat U-124 while escorting an Atlantic convoy during the early hours of 9th June 1942. He was resident in the junction house at the outbreak of WWII. The article reveals that as well as being a canal company employee Alfred Charles Neal was at one time the landlord of the Bridge Inn, Napton. JP

  41. Reminds me of the apocryphal tale of the employer who was asked to write a reference for a bloke who was the life and soul of the office and great to have around, but fundamentally lazy and did very little work. He eventually submitted the following double-entendre: "If you can get him to work for you, you will indeed be lucky!"

  42. I come from a petroleum engineering background, mostly maintenance of RAF fuel installations. people have been known to open or close valves that Should be well left alone (unless when servicing for example). A simple lockable valve handle and strong cable tie is something I’ve had to do before and after hearing concerns about valve placemat on here I’ll make sure to do this on the boat also.
