Resources at Sutton Cheney wharf Ashby Canal

This Summer (June, remember?) I was tempted by the CRT signs to pause and partake of the offerings at Sutton Cheney wharf on the Ashby.

I stayed 2 days

Used the toilets and had a shower

Filled up with water

Enjoyed a cup of coffee

Emptied the bucket

... all excellent up until then.

Sadly, despite spending two days hanging around; the final promise didn't appear.  I know there was no advanced identification, and I wasn't really expecting Elton John, however Hank Marvin would have been nice.

I saw that too, would be interested to know what on earth it means (though not so desperately interested it seems, having not bothered to investigate). It does seem rather daft to have a symbol the meaning of which isn't self evident.

I think it probably covers the rubbish disposal

Straight from the horses mouth as it were…

Good morning,

I have spoken to my colleague and they have advised that the star means a site of historical knowledge, and this site in particular was where the battle of Bosworth took place.

Hope this helps with your enquiry.

Kindest regards

But where did the battle take place? not at the wharf

Interesting that the wikipedia entry for Tardebigge has this

"In the later Dark Ages there were battles fought between Ethelred's son Edmund Ironside and the Cnut the Dane."

So maybe the stars are indeed references to historical events.

One day they will be able to put up signs with stars referring to the historical event of there having been an operational canal there.

In a field. The battle of Bosworth field.

Not the battle of Sutton Cheney wharf.

On the other thread linked to the sign was at Tardebigge.

Did something interesting happen there too ?

I've had a few very nice breakfasts in the little cafe by the top lock, but I'd have given those occurrences a far better than one star rating.

At the wharf, between two boaters arguing about (take your pick):

  • Boars vs dragons. Which is best to fly as a boat pennant?
  • Pump out, or Cassette?
  • What the star on the sign is supposed to mean?
  • Whether the bottom right pictogram on the sign means that the mooring is a complete load of bollards?
  • If steering from in front of the tiller makes spinal scoliosis worse?
  • If a letter from Leicester Council demanding 500 years of parking back charges should be ignored or not?
