As there are often threads berating CRT for not doing things boaters think they should be doing I thought I would redress the balance. We used to boat on the Trent and Mersey a lot, particularly the North bit and I was impressed with the off side tree cutting they did which greatly improved the boaters line of sight and reduced the close encounters with overhanging trees. We have been on the shroppie for the last week and what a difference in woodseaves cutting! They are not quite finished yet but the difference is amazing. You no longer boat through there thinking that one of the overhanging trees which cut a lot of light would come down on top of you. Well done CRT! Haggis

Sounds like you were hoping for a reply that says they can't charge you, and you aren't happy with responses that say they can.

Liverpool Boats went bust because of Brexit and don't let the others flounder around giving you other excuses.

The problem has changed. The initial one was that it went click but didn't light. Now it lights but won't stay lit. The next stage is obvious. The burners will stay lit but the kettle will never boil.

Its been a naff week or so here on and off the boat. Myself had serious toothache and had it ripped out and still suffering a week after. Off a few days last week with it and as it was nice annoyed me as i couldnt concentrate to do work on the boat. Feel a bit better today and back to work this morning . What has been done over the last few weeks, well got the engine fitted and working, but i bought remote to short by a foot so waste of £40 , what a plonker, the steering cable is good as i had to soak it in air tool oil to loosen it up. well fine again. when i could was a cock up with the canopy patterns. I first used thick 800grm polythene sheet for the pattern material, as seen on the trailer, for that a it was ok but on the boat, not so good as to stiff so i got some 350grm, good thickness but it stretches to much easily. So i have ordered some proper pattern material, Fibretex and all the Lift The Dot fittings. Well think i have . Also some more basting tape as near ran out faffing with it. What else, oh yes and i think i will be getting more zips to remove all the sides so then i can have just the top section inplace if we want. Still on the canopy i mentioned that the rear section i wanted to be fixed to a vertical surface, and if you look back it was at around 45 deg. Now it is 90 deg after i laminated inplace the sections i made a few week back. Filled the ends with a filler i made from chopped up CSM and poly resin. Just mix the resin as normal and then add the CSM cuttings and mix in, it will show how fast the binder breaks down. So just slap it in the hole let set then sand back. In above pic you can see i filled it with expanding foam to get a back to fill to. Now for now that is that untill the Fibretex arrives, tomorrow i hope form what they charge for postage., dam shocking. One job i just could not decide on was what to do with he hatch opening. This weekend i decided to just try this idea instead of trimming it with hardwood. One thing i did wrong is forget to wet the inside of the tunnels that i made from polythene and masking tape to help it set, not easy though if i did to get water to stay on polythene. But it worked out just about as in the end i cut a few slashes in the polythene to let air get in. I need to trim it more as just did it tonight when i got home to see if it had all set. few large air pockets but no problem, this is with filling to much and not dampening the `mould` Fill with expanding foam. not to much as you can see i got carried away. Trimmed back a little, need to do a lot more as the hatch bolt need access points and then laminating up. So plan is to get the canopy made and get the boat sanded and painted is the priority along with fitting the linings and upholstery. If all that is done with a few other little bits like outboard mount and this and that it will be launched May 18th..............dont hold your breath. Captain Faffer :):)

My concerns, in order are: 1. guarding against crushing between the boat and hard stuff. Even an arm over the side whilst mooring has to be guarded against. Also in this category is heads on bridges etc. Also gate arms. 2. guarding against falling in in dangerous areas eg near gate paddles. What could you do if somebody was sucked into a paddle hole in a gate apart from wait for the lock to fill? Simply falling in otherwise peaceful waters (away from the prop) bothers me far less. Two of my three children and myself fell in at various times without any great dramas, on canals, without life jackets/aids. On rivers I would have been much more concerned.

I can’t see any problem with objective criticism of any company but particularly not that of an ex-company. All the criticism so far posted in this thread has been in the form of “In my experience...” or “In my opinion...”. That’s not libel, that’s the poster’s experience or opinion, otherwise known as free speech, and there’s nothing libellous in that. Not sprayed with moisture or a hatch left open in the rain. EVERYTHING - electrics, engine, upholstery, woodwork...has become sodden. Do you genuinely believe for 1 minute that this won't haunt you for years to come? Unless you can guarantee the ENTIRE boat has been refurbished including the fittings, all the fixtures, electrical goods, the entire electrical looming and all accessories, the engine removed, stripped down and all ancilliaries replaced. Boat rustproofed and repainted. You will forever rue the day you bought it. You know what they say.................a fool and their money are easily parted.

So what? I accept responsibility for my actions. As I've said before, it's my choice whether I obey any law, nothing compels me to. There may be penalties imposed by society for doing so, and that's the price for that choice. What your arguments imply is that there's a way of evading that responsibility by being what used to be called a barrack room lawyer,in a way that is virtually guaranteed to be detrimental to others. And your continual aggressive responses to to this thread show that you are looking for nothing less than a possible loop hole to stop Worcester City Council collecting a perfectly legal and very reasonable £4 a night, but don't like the replies that disagree with you.

Clause 7.11 directs you to CRT privacy policies. In the privacy policy for customers there is a clear statement that they will provide your personal data to other parties for precisely the purpose we are discussing. JP

I've used keelblack on my boat last time, its water based so no issues with a damp surface, dew etc. It's lasted fine, about to redo after 2 years. (timing is just my preference) I used a rotoblaster wheel, almost as good as sandblasting, to remove the old bitumen and rust. As for the bottom, when I got the boat it hadn't been blacked for 10 years. Moored in one place for about 4. There was a crusty rust layer about 4mm thick to be removed. I blacked it, it had suffered no further rusting.

If money is a not infinite, or the waiting lists too long, then many popular shell builders will be happy to produce a decent trad style shell for you, Colecraft have made many, though not sure that they do the rivets. Don't worry about all this RCD and regulation stuff, life is too short for that. However assuming life is at least another five years I reckon you can still do whatever you want if you don't plan to sell the boat within five years, and if you do drop dead before that then it is, as they say, somebody else's problem. Probably best to order the shell without the engine, just specify bed layout, then fit the engine "yourself" a little later. ..............Dave

Is the grub screw as long as the hole in the coupling? Sometimes, instead of one long grub screw there are two short ones fitted. One locates the shaft and the second locks the first Richard

Hi only just noticed these last two posts. sorry for late contact great to read this above from Pete Dodimead we are so pleased with our boat previous owner bought the shell and made his own layout had from new until we purchased from him. And trailed it so it was only launched 2 or 3 times and year and garaged in between so it is very good condition. We did refurb interior to make it a little more modern. We have bought ours and taken it on the Monmouth and Brecon. The 32ft is still there was amazing internal and external but in the last two years has sadly been left to deteriorate. The interior at present has been stripped out and it was a beautiful Oak finish and wonderful layout. In fact we where thinking of trying to contact the owners to see if they would sell. and would love to bring it back to its former glory. But noticed last Monday when checking on our boat the log burner was on in there so perhaps they are working on it now. thank you so much for your information Pete

Yes Ive inadvertantly clicked onto some facebook items before but the stupid pop up asking to log on or join overwhelms the page all too often. Facebook is at last being seen for what it is and hopefuly their abuse of peoples privacy and disrespect of various laws is coming to the forefront. Such platforms make life very easy for criminals in many ways which is a shame as if it were set up and used properly it would have been beneficial to many.
