Not sure how much you can believe the weather forecast for 2 weeks ahead, but it's showing rain overnight on the Friday and then dry the rest of the weekend, but very cold. Sounds like camping in the hold of Halsall could be fun then if Junior is ready.
matty40s
I seem to be missing some vital information in my paperwork, the bonus starting points? It's probably going to be a rush job to get there, coming in from either Fazeley or Knowle...not sure which yet.

Entrants may start at any point on the BCN but a 7 point bonus will be given for starting at any ‘triple rated’ location ( 3 X bonus factor) but you will need to navigate the full section as printed in the route planner to qualify. Full documents here http://bcnsociety.com/bcns-marathon-challenge-may-23-and-24-2015/ if you need any more info. Sue

Sue What is a triple rating? Is that the same as a CAMRA Gold medal? 7pt start bonus for us, in that case.

Our secret start location is in the the middle of a section. Does that mean we lose out? If its the middle of A section as detailed on the log, ie its between two junctions or features mentioned, then simply starting off in one direction to do most (but not all) of that section wouldn't earn you the start bonus. If you moored nearer the junction, then headed towards the junction, turned, then did the whole section, you'd earn the points. You'd not earn the points for the short initial travel in the wrong direction, though. Obviously ideal would be to moor AT the junction, but you can't really do that, you'd need to be slightly clear of it. I suppose if you were near enough, you could reverse, "touch" the junction effectively, then proceed with the entire section. Does that sound about right? Mrs Tawny Owl
Definitive answer from the organisers. Boats can start from anywhere but if they start in the middle of a section they should put a note in or by the start point box on the first page of the cruise log If they start mid way we would award half the points pro rata No bonus will be awarded if they start in the middle of the section only the designated points count If you don't admit to starting part way through a section, then your likely to get that section disqualified for speeding, the system does check speed for each section. Paul C
I know we're not the furthest but there is still a not insignificant journey for us to reach Birmingham by Saturday. I have 4 days of work left then on Tuesday will be setting off down (up) the Shroppie to take part in the Challenge this year; and on the return trip we're going to do the other 3/4 of the 4 counties ring, we've done the T&M bit many times but the S&W bit which includes Gailey and Tixall Wide, only once. Is anyone else making a mammoth journey to take part, and have you left yet? Or (as Bart Simpson might say) are you there yet?
