pete harrison
Assuming the details are correct (no photographs) this sounds like PARAGON, quite a decent looking boat back in the 1980's but now needing renovations: http://narrowboats.apolloduck.co.uk/boat.phtml?id=559632

This boat was unusual in that it was built on frames across the hold of the unconverted exF.M.C. Ltd.. wooden motor CARP, and there are photographs of it passing through Lapworth locks during this period. CARP 2 was originally powered by a 6 cylinder Perkins that made around 100hp ! The exF.M.C. Ltd.. wooden motor CARP has not faired so well, and its remains are in the mud below Thames lock, Brentford - although the National 2DM out of CARP lives on in TUG No. 2 (exG.U.C.C.C. Ltd. Carl Ryan
I seem to remember that Carp was owned by a chap called Graham in the1970's. He used to lockwheel for us on the lime juice. Whatever happened to him. I also remember that it ended up at Brentford at John Wooleys yard. Whatever happened to John. I used to work for John in the early 1980's. Is carp still at Brentford? magnetman
The boat for sale is "Carp 2", i remember it was at Oxford just after the first lock from dukes cut (agenda 21 moorings) in the mid 90s with a 6 pot Perkins in it. Last time I saw it was about 10 years ago at Boobun by the dry dock beside the top lock (Jem Bates). Advert says Herts so probably still there and the photo looks like the same place. Pete Harrison mentioned earlier that the remains of FMC Carp are in the mud at Brentford.

I was told a lot of the boat was not proper hardwood, although I have no idea if that was true. Certanly an eye catching design at the time. Here it is in 1973:
