  3. I let em all live in my garden. Its fabulous. We get the occasional rat who I think ,lives next door but pops over for a munch sometimes. We have lovely squirrels and indeed are oft visited by foxes and most nights a couple of badgers. All caught many times by our Trail cam. The squirrels sit over our heads in the trees and drop nut shells on us when sat out in late summer. We have slow worms as our garden adjoins the Ceredigion slow worm sanctuary lol. No hedgehogs as yet but working on that.

  11. It's almost as if the programme makers were trying to come up with easy-watching TV for watchers after undemanding entertainment requiring no familiarity with the subject.

  15. Agreed, I was reluctant to respond but the sick nature of the post outweighed this. I've no problem with necessary pest control but definitely do with actions as of the O.P. unfortunately, there's no cure for an inherently sick mind.

  16. The early marine engines used a Lucas starter motor. Originally there was a choice of isulated or earth return. Lucas then stopped supplying the insulated starter hence the use of the twin 4ST solenoids when insulated earth was required. Moving on to later engines Lucas stopped supplying starters altogether so Lister moved over to using Nippon Denso starter motors. These later starters can be fitted to earlier engines with no other modification to the engine.

  18. I really don't see why you're getting your knickers in a twist about this -- and I don't think it was a sterrible as you're making out. You're not the intended audience, and neither am I, and neither is anyone else on CWDF -- and the same applies to pretty much every programme on the TV about canals, with the possible exception of Robbie's "Cruising the Cut" -- which people on here still nitpicked about... 😞 "It's almost as if the programme makers were trying to come up with easy-watching TV for watchers after undemanding entertainment requiring no familiarity with the subject. " is a good summary, and I think it was just that. If that's not what you're looking for, don't watch it 🙂

  19. I honestly don’t remember the Vet but he was supposed to be Herriot or whatever and the farm (Manor Farm) was on the telly. Our farm was about a mile from the White Horse along the Gallops, and I used to walk past it every night on my way to the pub at Kilburn (mouse man fame). Previously I fell out with the landlord at the Hambleton on top of the bank (and closer) over my Wellies (another tale) and this resulted in the longer walk. In those days everyone drank a “pint touch” from memory pay as £13/week and £5 was taken out for board and lodge - one bath a week. cucumber mothers pride sandwiches and Luke warm stale tea in a glass lined flask. Did it for a year before Agiri College. When I left I was offered £30/week to stay! Gliding looks like fun I used to watch probably you! But never got a go. At least there ‘s no engine it should suit a few of us on here

  21. But sealed lead acid batteries should be charged at 14.4 volts, open cells at 14.8 volts Maximum! Charging at 15 volts will boil the cells, create hydrogen sulphide and result in water loss and destroyed batteries.

  22. What did you all expect? They make these programmes to attract viewers, seems like they attracted or should that be trapped a few from here. 😃 If they started discussing the merits of the small Woolwichs' versus the large Northwichs' or even mentioned the word 'Josher' ( I would have turned off then ) your average channel hopper would have fallen asleep.😴 Thought the filming / quality was good and would have liked to have seen drone footage going up the pillars and underneath the trough, up close and personal on 'that' aqueduct. I suppose we should be thankful someone has taken the time to make this programme.

  29. Barajee. Thanks for the recommendation: we hadn't tried them before and it was an excellent curry, neatly served, and well worth a return visit. We were early in the evening, and they set a canal-view table for us: and Black Sabbath bridge from the window on t'other side From Gas Street Basin towingpath, the restaurant is the lighted windows on the second floor above Broad Street Tunnel

  30. We have just had the ‘alternator on the way out’ experience. Symptoms were the buzzer not going totally silent on engine start and, when I looked closely enough, the domestic alternator warning light was glowing faintly. I took the old alternator to Electrostart in Daventry, who ran it up on their test rig and confirmed that it wasn’t working properly. They gave me the option of them rebuilding it, fixing the failed diode pack and whatever other problems they found, or just buy a replacement, which would be quicker and cheaper. They transferred the pulley from old to new, checked I had the right electrical connections, and altered a fixing point on the alternator to suit the bolts I had. Friendly people, excellent service, and the only retail place I have ever seen left hand twist drills on sale! Recommended. https://electrostart.co.uk/

  31. Backi in the day we used to watch some rugby league International matches at the old Central Park ground in Wigan. Hop off the train, into the Swan and Railway for a couple of pints, then just up to the road to (the now defunct) Pooles bakery shop for a couple of top class pies. It's true about Wigan and pies. We walked into the shop and were greeted by the woman serving asking, "pies lad?". It was a given we wanted pies, just which ones.

  32. Yes, the Swan and Railway is probably the finest architecture of a pub in Wigan. Pretty good beers too. And it's only about thirty yards from the best beer in Wigan, under the railway line in the arches: Wigan Central https://wigancentral.bar/

  35. To absolutely clarify. Have you plugged a mains item into the boat's 240V socket, started and revved the engine, turned the multiway switch to Travelpower and turned the Travelpower on. Don't do this with the inverter turned on or a shore line attached. The three-way switch is almost certainly used to connect one of the three "mains type" power sources to your boat's 240V sockets. Your boat should have a domestic mains circuit breaker/fuse and RCD box, so make sure the RCD or a circuit breaker has not tripped

  36. The problem I have with such programmes is that I get telephoned by a researcher, spend an hour or so giving detailed and up-to-date historical information, and then they totally ignore it because it doesn't fit with the directors 'ideas'. When they used film, directors had a clear script to follow, nowadays the script is on the back of a fag packet and they take vast amounts of digital video and make it up when it comes to editing.

  37. The Travelpower produces AC electricity, so no it doesn't power your inverter. Your inverter is powered by your batteries. It takes DC power and inverts it to AC. So you might want to check that you have the inverter switched off because I can't see that having 2 sources of AC on the same mains ring would be very safe. However, I also know next to nothing about these things so I might be wrong. There isn't another AC selector switch somewhere that needs to be switched to Travelpower is there?

  38. Have you checked that it's not something as simple as a blown fuse or a fault with the three way selector switch?

  39. The inverter I referred to is the Travelpower box, it is an inverter inside, not your inverter which uses your cabin battery as a power source.

  45. My first thought when I saw the pictures was 'Which nob designed that, and which nob built it...' The most honest sentence I've read in a long time, well said!!! Until relatively recently this was the general consensus, but hydrothermal vents were discovered thousands of meters under the sea supporting complete eco systems cut-off from everything else. TBH the organisms that live there are often referred to as extremophiles due to the environment they thrive in previously though unable to support life....

  48. Most people wouldn't dream of botching any other piece of navigational equipment on their boats so I'm not quite sure why we have so many suggestions to that effect on this subject? It's not about whether you're going to get into trouble for having an incorrect navigation light, it's a more about making sure the light is the correct colour and brightness to actually be seen and function as a navigation light. For that reason forget about green bulbs, green paint, nail varnish, moulding your own lens 😂, and either replace the lens or the whole light with a new one.
