? Not sure what you are getting at, Alan.

Yes, I had my cheque book at the ready, but a phone call to ABNB just now confirms that Emerald has been sold, yesterday in fact. Hmm, I'll have to think of somewhere else to go this weekend, I'd intended to go and view.

How is it that some very nice boats which I don't want hang around for months, whereas this one has sold in just over a weekend?

My cheque book comment was based on what I quoted namely that you said ABNB said it had NOT been sold...

It seems it now has......

Yep, back to the drawing board - a feeling which I think you experienced frequently over the couple of years before Flamingo joined your family!

What about Satellite?

Given that we from time to time get serious enquiries about availability of unconverted boats, this surely has to find a new owner soon?

Just as well I'm into "Grand Unions" rather than Joshers, as I really can't afford another "toy"..........

Obviously Bolinders (of any type) are a bit of a specialist thing, and not everybody will want to take one on, but I note the suggestion that this might be changed if somebody preferred a Lister.

The strange thing about historic boats is that if you were funding a restoration of a boat like "Ling" to this kind of standard, I'm sure it would cost far more than the price you might pay for one where this much work has been done. The other advantage over restoring one yourself, is you can start enjoying it from day one - something we were always very grateful when we bought "Sickle".

Would the original engine have been a Bolinder?

Would the original engine have been a Bolinder?

Yes, a 9 horse, direct reversing.

edit... MtB I think hes referring to Ling .. or at least I am!

edit edit... Satalite would have been a star-motor not an 'orse!

Where Satellite is concerned, I think the original engine was a horse!

Not true of course, but I'm sure you know that really!

Yes, one of the FMC motors intended for use on the Northern canals working alone without a butty - those that were expected to tow generally got a bigger Bolinder.

So a rather different prospect from the 20HP now installed, which also has a reversing gearbox, so you don't need to force opposite rotation of the engine to achieve reverse, (as would have been required with the original engine).

I'd have to take the offer of the HR3 up instead of the fuel guzzling noise box, but even the Lister is OTT.

Nice on the river though. I think SATELLITE is a little gem.

Am I right in thinking the cabin is wood? Still a bonus. Easier to paint and get looking good.

ETA: Yes, just re-read the pdf from the broker - timber.

Considering I didn't completely fill the tank in April 2014 and it's only just ran out I don't think it is that bad on fuel.

My problem is that I want a converted boat like Ling. In fact - ling would be perfect with an undersheet conversion. However, I could not agree with the conversion of a boat such as Ling.

Steel gunwales too so easy to weld a watertight top on ;-)

Yes, wooden top. Lovely inside. The engine is excellent - certainly great on the river.

Dave Humphreys owns it now (he bought it from me back in 2008)

Ling is very nice  I agree with heffalump it would be a bit rude to stick a conversion on it but a full length unconverted motor is a bit of an unusual thing for someone to want.

Shh stop!

So you don't want to know about door in bow cabin so access into a theoretical undercloth conversation would be available.

This said she has never been converted

I love Ling, have done since she was the maintenance boat on the S&W, even when BW chopped that chunk out of her gunnels in the early 90's for some reason only they know about she was still gorgeous. All the work done since has only improved her imo, price is reasonable too for a josher motor. If I win the lottery friday I'll be in touch. cheers.gif
