I know this is getting silly, but how about an (almost) proper job!

Just over £41,500. What could you get for that in the UK?

You'd really need to live in Holland though - so much cruising water there.

Very nice.

A friend of ours has just brought a Pedro back from Holland. They looked at loads of boats here but couldn't find the right one for the right money. £50k in Holland has bought them an immaculate boat which would easily have been another £20-25k on top over here. Cost them £4k to get it brought back.

Yes. my cousin has a 60x12ft Skutsje. There is about 5ft8 maximum headroom and a distinct lack of internal space considering the size of the boat. I actually don't like that type of bargr myself. But a Klipper wub.png

I quite like this.

Nice. I will be passing that later today if its the one at Sunbury on Thames :)

If I were allowed 5m beam on my mooring (4.2m is the maximum permitted) I would be looking at cutting a Spitz or peniche down to 22 metres - that would make a superb cruising houseboat..

I like the hull shape but don't think the superstructure does it any favours.

Nice fit out though. I like that.

This was moored at Boons at Mountsorrel for many years until the family decided to sell the house and what remained of the boatyard. Never saw it move. It is now at Redhill. Very nice looking boat and always looked cared for.

Has this been posted before?

Not sure it has been shown under Virinia Currer before, but certainly has appeared in other guises.

The forum's "Speedwheel" used to own it, at one stage.

The first is the back end of "Rigal".

I think I have worked this one out, but only for fun as there is not much information captain.gif

The details given are 62' narrow boat, built 1928, Gardner 3L2 and located at Milton Keynes.

I reckon the former Midlands and Coast Canal Carriers Ltd. SPADE.

But Pete, the advert says there are SIX of them for sale!!

"This is an original one of 6 Canal houseboat for sale."

I am putting this down to either poor information or poor punctuation, or a combination of both.

How would it be if the quote above read "This is an original one of 6. Canal houseboat for sale" - the number six would be wrong but no more so than the information in loads of boat adverts - and the addition of the full stop makes sense of the capital C in the word "Canal".

SPADE is one of four conventional iron composite horse boats built by John Crichton & Co. Ltd.in the late 1920's (and W.J. Yarwood & Sons Ltd. had earlier built another four to a similar design).

I am sticking with SPADE captain.gif

So you are calling a SPADE a SPADE.

If you are wrong and get in a hole will you stop digging?

I could call a SPADE a JEANNIE, then that would be more whole than hole captain.gif

anybody good at riddles ?

Another Crichton boat on the duck:

STAR has been advertised on Apollo Duck on and off since 2011, and under the same ownership.

Price now reduced. This has been for sale for a long time.

I'm surprised - perhaps its somewhat rudimentary fit-out has put prospective customers off. But a boat with such history and a nice engine (albeit arguably in the wrong place) must be a bargain for somebody - at that price there could be cash left over to spend on upgrading the inside.

So you are calling a SPADE a SPADE.

Why would anyone have called their boat "Spade"? I know that there was an LMS steam locomotive called Shovell, but he was apparently an admiral in the British Navy.

Let's hope that someone forks out for it.
