  1. Is it to leave the boat unattended for a few days? And does it have to be in Manchester itself? We are about a day and a halfs cruising south of Manchester and 30 mins in the car. You'd be welcome to leave the boat in our garden for a while if necessary, so long as it's not full length.
  2. Bought myself this can recently online unseen. Very happy with the price I paid for it. It was advertised as being about fifty years old, but other than that the seller didn't really seem to know what it was, where it came from etc... What are people's thoughts? I know Taylor Brothers was a business on Trafford Park by the Bridgewater Canal, but don't know why they'd have a can painted. There's also Taylors boatyard in Chester, but I'm not sure they were ever known as Taylor Bros? Could be just a couple of brothers with the surname Taylor that decided to get a can painted I suppose.
  3. I nearly bought Speedwell in early 2020. It was for sale for somewhere between £15k - 20k. It was all we could afford at the time so had decided we would buy it and take a punt on condition. We were going down to view it on the Saturday and would make the offer there and then in the interest of securing a quick deal. The front cabin was unfitted if I remember correctly, but rear cabin and engine room ready to go. The seller rang me on the Friday to tell me he had sold it to someone else. I was absolutely gutted. Then COVID happened a few weeks later and we felt relieved as I don't think we'd even have been able to get the boat home or use it that summer. I've attached a photo from the Apollo Duck advert back then. I'm surprised it seems to have had the front cabin fitted out and a repaint and now appeared again for sale for £20k more!!!
  4. Our house is on top of/or just to the side of a tunnel portal. As far as I am aware the tunnel portal is listed.
  5. This is a random request... We wish to change the appearance of our conservatory on the house. It is leaking from the flat part of the roof, and it is essentially useless as it is too cold in winter and too hot in summer. We wish to take the flat roof and domed rooflight off and put a pitched roof with a gable end/wall that is fully glazed, allowing a lovely view out over the canal. The existing glazing would then be triple glazed and the inside doors to the living room completely removed, making the 'conservatory' actually part of the whole living room. In my opinion, from the outside this would look far better than the current conservatory which we believe is around 10 - 15 years old. It currently has a flat room and upvc roof dome light. The new roof would be made of slate, the same as what is on the rest of our house. Anyway...the question... In all the legal deeds and bumpf we got when we bought the house was 12 page document from 'British Waterways' with restrictions and clauses and stuff like that, and one of the clauses is that we must not change the appearance of the house from the canal. Doing what we want to do would change the appearance, but only in a small way and in my opinion be an improvement on what is currently there. WHO WOULD WE SPEAK TO AT THE CANAL AND RIVER TRUST ABOUT THIS???????? I'd like to sound them out about whether they would be flatly against any changes regardless, because if they said they were then I could save myself the £900 in fees applying for planning permission. But I don't know who to go to to ask? Our regional office would be Northwich. Also what about just doing it anyway 😀? I'm sure CRT have no idea the document exists, and I don't think anyone comes round every few weeks to make sure we've not changed the appearance of the house. Apologies for putting this in the boating section...but I couldn't work out which section of the forum it should go in. Mods feel free to move if necessary.
  6. Any fire with a 'body inside' would be investigated by the police and fire investigation. Doesn't mean a crime has been committed and it was a result of foul play.
  7. Another post that reeks of AI to me.
  8. I don't think the OP is a real person. A lot of their posts read like Artificial Intelligence stuff.
  9. Mike Askin, who posts occasionally on this forum has a YouTube channel and has posted some great videos over the years. Also Rebekah Fuller posts really well put together videos, usually featuring historic narrowboats, although I can't remember what she calls her 'channel' off the top of my head. I don't think either are in it for the money.
  10. Just had a delivery of 'Red' from the local coalboat (by road) that should keep me going over winter, but I've also just ordered a couple of bags of House Coal Trebles off ebay from one of the Northern Irish based merchants to have on the open fire over Christmas. Says it is 48hr delivery so we shall see...
  11. Why don't you advertise a few of them for sale on the forum?
  12. Do what you want. Better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
  13. I'm in Germany at the moment. I still like to buy from the local coal boat (Halsall/Alton), so we're a bit limited to what they stock. House coal supplies ran out a long time ago. Just ordered some Excel to keep us going over Dec/Jan, but I'm tempted to drive over to Wales and get a few bags of house coal trebles in for Christmas 🎄.
  14. I just wish I could buy house coal still for my open fire 😒
  15. Having circumnavigated the Four Counties Ring every couple of weeks for a few years, I've looked at these plenty of times myself and often thought some of them look fake. So you're not alone.
  16. Only 40mins from here to Wrexham, so I might be able to get a boot full in the car!
  17. Wonder if the mrs could justify buying house coal for her recruitment consultancy 🤣
  18. Any loopholes for getting hold of some house coal? Anyone got a secret stash? I'm down to my last bucketful in the back of the coal shed. Been searching online and it seems impossible to find any 😒
  19. Yes, registered in Northwich in 1958 number 46.
  20. Tarporley on the left? What's in the middle? Is that somewhere at Longport?
  21. Even the wooden staircase is still there.
