If you had a million pounds

No, it's a 4" to the foot miniature.

More about it here http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/showthread.php?t=32391

Anyone recognise it?

Personally, give my 3 children 20% each, give 10% to a charity and with the remaining 30% travel around the world, as far as possible by train.

How about buying an historical wooden narrowboat and then getting it 'accidentally' sunk in a lock ("oops - didn't know that would happen") in a strategic location to thwart the travel plans of others for a week....

....SWMBO says even if I had a million pounds I can't have an opduwer unless I get rid of one of the other boats.

If I don't have a million pounds I can only have an opduwer if I can sell another boat for enough money to buy it.

Oops, sorry.

Text copied from Traction Talk, the pic (larger version of avatar) won't copy:

Good Afternoon Everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me anything of the history of this engine.

It's a 4" scale Ruston Proctor built to the Live Steam Models design.

I bought it in 2010 from Station Road Steam. It had been on their books before in 2006 and sold to a chap in Glasgow. I believe he part exchanged it for a showmans four years later.

It's road registered, S629SKL, and the boiler carries the marking LB-210-96 at the bottom LHS of the throatplate. I'm guessing that the '96' is the year the boiler was made as a two year build period would tie in with the 'S', ie 1998, registration. I'd be very interested in knowing who made the boiler.

The log book that came with the engine had two addresses in it, one in Glasgow and the other in Hertfordshire. A while ago I wrote to both but only heard back from Glasgow.

At Fawley Hill last year a visitor stopped me and as he recognised the engine. He said it had been made in Kent, had known the builder and had retubed the boiler in the past. He also mentioned that it had been through Preston's books.

Like an idiot I didn't catch the chap's name and address as I'd have liked to have known more.

I would certainly like to congratulate whoever built it. Parts might be a tad 'chunky' but it goes! (as in the harder you work it the more steam it makes)

We had a good time with it at Singleton last weekend and we will be at Havenstreet here on the IoW for the Steam Show from Friday.

Any information gratefully received and thanks in advance.

I'm happy as I am...quality time with nice people is more precious than money anyway....

I don't think people with money necessarily have to choose between the two. There are plenty of rich people who spend quality time with good friends and family.

Maybe, but the one positive thing about having nothing, or very little, is that you can be absolutely certain who your real friends are.

A million is nothing. Now if I had a big Euromillions win, say £100M or so, then I'd buy/build the Milton Keynes new canal and have fun inventing a new "old" lock mechanism system so that locks work perfectly. The mechanism would look fairly classic i.e. chunky iron, but would have the option of semi-automatic operation, where the falling water would provide the energy to open the gates.

I'd get the time machine, go back to Nazi Germany, kill Hitler and take over from him and rule the world..........

On 2nd thoughts live full time on my boat.

Sorry. Hit Edit instead of Reply

Much better to go back a bit further and be nice to Adolph H when he was little.

And with the time machine you could live full time on your boat at the end of the 19th C.

Well, I've recently bought a share in a "historical wooden narrowboat" . It didn't quite cost a million and `i have no intention of letting it sink accidentally or otherwise in any location. Why do you specify "wooden"? Do you think they are somehow more vulnerable to "accidents"?

I'm sure someone on here would sell you an old tin tub for a million or so , then you can do the deed at your strategic location, but please make sure it's a long way from here!

Most timelines are actually quite resilient and will take the path of least change. If you try to influence the timeline, most changes will be mitigated over time so it is harder than you would think to change the course of history.

There are a few points in time where minor changes could produce a full timeline restructure, these are known as 'TRE points' (timeline restructuring event points). Due to the dangers involved in the general public having access to TRE points, visiting them was prohibited under section 7 of the Time Travel act 2023. Guards from the TRPF (timeline restructuring prevention force) are stationed at each TRE point to ensure their proper progression.

The lifetime of Hitler is one such TRE point, it's basically where every noob goes the first time they get their hands on a time machine. So far there have been at least 327 assassination attempts prevented.

Move away from Boating !, HAHAHAHEEEHAAHA !

NO WAY angry.png , I would however get someone to come & replace my 'Toilet to Holding Tank' Hose !, and then obviously Have Boats all over the World, and a Sea king Helicopter with in flight refueling capabilities, and a bigger Donut storage facility !.

But NO I wouldn't stop my life afloat 100% sure of that.

Very dangerous?, because to prevent the rotors cutting the fuel line I suppose you'd have to pump the fuel up from below.

Is that possible, has it been done?

However, on a budget of a million pounds you wouldn't get far enough to tackle this technical problem, because I fear the helicopter would cost more. I couldn't find a price for the British version, but the original US model apparently had a unit cost of $6.4 million:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_SH-3_Sea_King

Unless of course they can be bought cheaply second hand... Here's a mention of a frame for auction a year ago at a guide price of £15,000, you might need a lot of engineering knowledge to make it airworthy:

http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?41590-Sea-King-HAS-Mk6-Helicopters-for-Sale-at-Witham-SV-Auction

By now it's probably been converted and has someone living on it on the Regents' Canal.

Indeed! Is that the best the conspiracy theorists can come up with?

They'll be telling us next that the US faked the moon landings and staged 9/11.

George ex nb Alton retired

I duno though...the two next to her look like blokes disguised as women...maybe they are escorts from the mother ship....look you've started me off now!
