  2. but ignore the bit about insulating the flue inside and the chimney outside. Dons tin helmet and retires to bunker (heated perfectly by a Puffin without insulation to help heat the great outdoors).

  4. But doesn't the BSS inspector needs some form of certification as to his competence in using a manometer for his insurance anyway?
  5. I prefer the atmosphere at MachineMart to Halfords but I have not done a price comparison.
  6. I had assumed that the random piles of oddments by the side of the canal were Art works sponsored by C&RT or Local Authorities.
  7. AdeE, how would it be if an examiner looked at you and assessed you to be a responsible and sensible person in full awareness of the requirements of the BSS and therefore almost certain to satisfy the spirit of the test if not all the small print? And therefore asked about any changes, and being satisfied about them, signed you off? Is that what happened to you? If you look in the flesh anything like you post, I would not hesitate to give you a BSC pass without looking at your boat(s)! I can imagine that an examiner who sees many hopeless cases does not dwell on those who are clearly unlikely to be a threat to themselves or others. But thats just me.
  8. My mooring is near a winding hole, and my observations suggest that a lot of folk think it is necessary to use a lot of revs for every manouvre when turning a boat. Misjudged, this leads to harder impacts than needful.
  9. No good will come of it, its too soon. The number of boats requiring intensive care will rocket, possibly overwhelming available resources.
  10. I am not bothered by the noise that happy children make. Its miserable, waily, children that I find disturbing.

  12. I doubt that we'll ever get to the bottom of this.

  15. Oh, do tell! (I can't imagine who it might be!)
  16. Hi, I'm new to this boating lark. I'd like to get aircon on my boat before I take it to London. Can you tell me how I connect it to my Webasto and calorifier please?

  18. If a hire company put a 1,000 HP engine in a boat, it would be the hire company's fault. So there is a requirement for the hire co to provide a sensible propulsion system. What I would like to see is their engines fitted with a system that prevents sustained high revs, (allowing brief say 30 seconds ? at high revs for awkward situations, ) for non-river operations. When we get electric boats then of course they will have bankside-controlled limiters for individual sections of the canal. I look forward to a similar system on motorways (not that many boats use motorways).
