Emerald Fox
"There has been a lot of comment (good and mostly bad) about Whilton Boat Sales. The good is that they have loads of boats for sale (100+ ?) and you can wander about, on your own, and spend as much time as you like on each boat, getting a feel for what you want and what each boat 'needs' to make it to your spec. The cafe does a great breakfast." This is interesting... is this true? Would this be a good place to have breakfast? Seriously interested.... details please! Captain Fizz
Yes, there is no doubt, the cafe is the highlight of Whilton marina.
Guest
We were last at Whilton over four years ago when we were looking so its not a 'current' recommendation but yes we had a very nice breakfast too. It was a nice chap that ran it too. It maybe the same guy but I don't know.
matty40s
Had a breakfast there in December and it was basically thrown at us , coffee spilt on the table and we had to go and ask for the toast which was going cold on the side in the kitchen. Oh, and still waiting for the mayo now,; also didn't get offered a top up coffee! Not impressed, as it is not exactly cheap.
Alan de Enfield
November - not the cheapest but certainly value for money Tee refills as many as you want, piles of hot toast (doorsteps) good sized portion of bacon, eggs, sausage and all the 'bits' Good value for money and served by a very pleasant lady. KJT
I often pop in there for breakfast if I need to shop at the chandlers next door. I think their food is quite good value. Ken

Emerald Fox
Hmm... might try Whilton for breakfast. On holiday 1-7 March and may be sniffing around the Oxford Canal for a marina (temporary parking from June to Sept/Oct?). Mercia - noted, but a bit off our route (unless we happen to go past at breakfast time).

Keeping Up
The main problem is that it is an awful place to spend the night before breakfast. It may be a good mooring but you have the main line railway one side of you and the motorway the other side. Peaceful it ain't! And the pub closed many years ago. And if you don't fancy the Full Monty (or even the Hamish Macbeth) they do an excellent sausage and bacon cob.
Athy
may be sniffing around the Oxford Canal for a marina (temporary parking from June to Sept/Oct?). Clattercote Wharf just North of Cropredy has vacancies at the moment. It's not a marina though, it's offside farm moorings. PM me if contact details would be of interest. Since the foot way from the nearby lock has been blocked, the security has improved considerably. No incidents for two years or more. And it's out in the sticks. We have moored there for six+ years. Mike knows this mooring site well. Edited February 15, 2014 by Nightwatch

Emerald Fox
Willow Tree Tea Rooms - noted - thanks! Wot - really - Fri to Monday? (Whilton) You can wonder what it'd have been like in the 1790s if only those canal workers then had this Internet-thingy! "Lock-keeper at Lock 18 to Lock-keeper at Lock 25: boat called 'Owl' just passed, horse looks fit for knackers yard, get some fresh hay out for it please. Stop."
