Yes, it is that time again.

Usually the biggest "historic boat fest" of the whole year, although I have no idea about actual numbers expected this year.

Details here.

Not sure exactly which, but a lot of forum member connected boats already present or on their way, I think, including (I believe!)....

Arial

Chertsey

France

Lamprey (?)

Linnet

Owl

Python

Reginald

Sickle

and I'm sure lots I have forgotten, or don't know about.

Unless historic boats fail to move you in any way at all, this is usually the one not to miss.

Please come and say "hello" if you do visit.

I am really sorry that we will not be going to Braunston (again) this year. It clashes with The Chesterfield Canal Trust's own festival at Stavely Basin and all of us stalwart volunteers were advised in no uncertain terms that our presence was required to be wrapped in a stewards hi-vis helping out on home turf.

As Python was already booked to be at Braunston and without any possibility of her being at her "home" festival (we still have 8 miles to restore before she can get there without a crane!) we were a little stuck for who might be able to volunteer to man Python and fly the flag for Chesterfield Canal Trust at Braunston. Then a thought crossed my mind - who did I know who was a member of The Trust and also enjoyed historic boat festivals.......... The Forum's very own Ange & Dave.

So if you happen to be at Braunston Festival please say hello to our intrepid hero's Ange and Dave who have selflessly volunteered to give up the comfort of their own boat to camp under cloths on Python for the Festival and talk to people about a canal restoration that, while being close to their heart, might not be the specialist subject they would choose to answer questions about on Mastermind! Be gentle with them - in my eyes this pair will be wearing their underpants outside of their jeans this weekend as without them Python would be a Billy no mates for the festival.

....and you can all thank your lucky stars that "Aunty Wainwright" will not be there trying to extract money from you for the cause biggrin.png (I will save that for the next one!)

Hi all

I'm visiting by car on Saturday, arriving mid morning and there till mid afternoon. Does anyone know if Tom Montagu is going? I've some of his paint in my workshop and I want to reunite him with it. Tried calling but number no longer in use.

Cheers

Dave

As to historic boat numbers......

Having just spoken to the harbourmaster, he reckons about 80 actually booked in, and typically he might expect about 10 to turn up who have not.

So could be looking in the 90 boats region?

Bigger than last year, when water shortages and conflicting events kept numbers down, but not up in the "hundred plus" region that ensures gridlock and up to 6 hours to get round one circuit of a parade.

Sounds about right to me!

I was planning to visit but sadly my boat is stuck at the marina following blacking as the crane is faulty. Hope to be back on the water by the weekend but at least 4 days from Braunston.

meggers, stick your location on here - 4 days by boat is not far by car.... and someone may be able to give you a lift.

Just a heads up to all attending - don't forget the annual wasp-noise car procession (F1) at Silverstone which will A43/A5 and surrounds on Friday/Sat and Sunday.

EDITED TO ADD - has Python got Sky TV fitted as the honourable pant wearing volunteers will need their fix.

For the first time for a number of years Fulbourne won't be at Braunston as we are still ther wrong side of Lock 12 on the Aylersbury Arm.

With a number of events on this weekend, I will be putting in an appearance at the Leeds Waterfront Festival at Thwaite Mills.

Why thank you for the kind words Ms Rose. Dave & I are actually quite looking forward to doing a bit of historic boat sitting - it'll be a first for us.

Alas Matty we'll have to miss the British GP live this year - we'll watch it on the iPlayer when we get back.

Now where did I put Dave's Superman costume?

Canalers, Melaleuca is amongst you! We're moored at the top of the Northampton flight, and will be at Braunston tomorrow, ready for Fun and Frolics. I'm already receiving intelligence that the Nelson has been "transformed".

Dave, yes I had an email from Tom today and he will be there with his boat. He said he will be in the Gongoozlers Saturday and Sunday for breakfast.

Edit to correct spelling.

We will be there Saturday

Shall I bring my toolbox?

Richard

Based on what happened last time, only any good if it contains machining and welding gear as well as spanners!

You can bring the shank of a 4mm HSS drill though, in case the one that Sickle's gear change still relies on happens to fail at this event........

I want you to listen to my rumbling reduction box and tell me how long it will last.

MP.

Steady on! That's not even in an ancient boat!
