We will be attempting to get through Braunston on Sunday - heading from Banbury to Market Harborough. What's the procedure, are there marshalls etc, or do you just plod along carefully?

We won't be in a hurry, as we want to see as much as possible as we go through.

There are marshals and in theory coming from that direction you will get diverted through the marina.

However in practice if you happen to arrive when one of the parades are on then be prepared for a lot of congestion, confusion and a long wait smile.png

Depending on how much of a rush you are in I'd just moor in the first place you can find along the Puddle Banks and walk in to enjoy the show and leave the next morning.

Pictures from 2011 to give you an idea...

Hi all

I'm visiting by car on Saturday, arriving mid morning and there till mid afternoon. Does anyone know if Tom Montagu is going? I've some of his paint in my workshop and I want to reunite him with it. Tried calling but number no longer in use.

Cheers

Dave

Dave,

Tom gave me his business card a few months back and he has tippexed out one of the numbers. The other number, beginning 01394 is the one he told me to use. You probably have the whole number but I'll PM it to you anyway...

Is there a timetable for the parades?

Usually, but if it is like 2 years ago, then meaningless, as on one day the morning parade had still not finished by late afternoon, and as a consequence the afternoon one never even started!

Last year was very much better, and anyone wanting to just pass through would probably not have experienced any major hold ups.

If boat numbers are as predicted this year, the chaos is likely to end up somewhere between either of these, but I would say if anyone is in a hurry, be prepared that you could be stuck for easily a couple of hours, if things have got muddled.

The only timing given in attendees notes is that the first opening parade is not until 11:00 am on the Saturday, so before that a through route should be no great problem. After that, who knows!

Halsall doesn't much fancy this one,not enough newer boats to hang out with!

To be honest parades and public displays bring me out in spots if I have to participate but I'm as happy as anybody else to watch. IS the parade compulsory?

We would come if we could stay tied up and out of the melee.

Oh Madcat, its a lovely atmosphere. Lots of fellow boaters to chat to.

A wonderfully understated, knowledgable commentary. Beer tent, food and other stalls to browse.

I can't beleive the parade is compulsory, and anyway, it can take up to 3 hrs so you'll be almost stationary most of the time !

Non-event boats are asked to moor away from the bottom lock to turn area, so you can always moor away and walk in.

Or why not pop over by car tomorrow and have a look.

If the parade lasts three hours it would eat into my sleeping time,I'm not about to surrender the Golden blanket award to get caught up in a boat scrum.

I have thought of attending but defiantly no parade, beer tent yes, looking at boats yes, taking photos yes and lots of socialising with friends will be just fine.

Hope everybody is having fun.

Work tomorrow, lifting the stove out.

It was nice to meet Alan F and Mrs F yesterday, and to talk Gleniffers with Mike the B and RWLP.

Congrats to the organisers for the lovely weather, and top marks to the commentator for a great job.

I hope you enjoy them.

Excellent two sequences of "Sickle" amongst the tugs, but particularly like about 06:30 to 07:30, where entering the marina.

Also on board beside me and Cath, and a very contented looking "Odin the Dog" are the "Tawny Owls" - Richard & Sue.

Great stuff!

I've got a whole load of photos but no way of getting them off the camera until we get home on Wednesday.

It was great to meet all those i said hello to and it was an excellent weekend all round :)

Even managed to blag a ride during one of the parades but feel short changed as we didn't get held up and made it all the way round the route in about an hour ;)
