I reckon they'll weld it back on again, once they've got that digger properly inside....

There wasn't enough head room to get the digger in.

If and I do say if I recall correctly Neil had the JP2 put in

Just found this thread, so my comment may not now be totally relevant.

Yes, it was Neil who put the JP in. As I recall, it came from a fishing boat on the south coast. I suspect it had been sunk for some time as the engine surfaces were quite pitted. ( and probably still are)

Was he the current owner of Greenlaw? Greenlaw passed us while we were working, he came and had a chat. He seemed fairly young?

1948 Historic Tug on the Thames, Glennifer Diesel still in place. Ebay item number 286094033674. maybe someone more savvy than me can put a link up on here.

Wish I were a bit younger and could take it on.

Bill the tug's Boat. Interesting indeed. He died a while back. Its a commercial tug hull and he built the topsides. I went in it in the mid 90s. its very deep and the Gleniffer is air start so may present some issues.

It is a cool Boat but it is rather deep. I believe it is 5ft or possibly a bit more.

Not sure I'd get my head around it but air-start means that you get a twin pot Lister thrown in as a bonus extra

Can imagine it being very deep. Has a low profile, obvious in the unconverted photos but still has generous headroom down below.

Looks to have been a boater's boat. Pillar drill, engineer's vice but no fancy non-boaty gadgetry to be seen.

Hope someone with the enthusiasm and skills of the previous owner can take it on.

It is deep.

This will be a drawback. Bill the tug was a Boat person. I used to live in Hampton Wick as a youth and saw Charles W regularly while out in the dinghy. Nice Boat the price is about right. Might go for rather less than that. I think he might have spares for the Gleniffer as well which could be interesting for somebody.

I knew I had a picture, we were moored opposite during the Summer, came back late evening and were stopped by loads of kids on canoes....they were the grandkids of our next door neighbor's boat at Stowe Hill, and saw the SH painted on our back cabin.

I sent a message to the Massey Shaw fireboat and got a reply.

They have a pair of Gleniffer 8s and one of them has sadly been seriously damaged by water ingress. I think the unit in Charles W is a DB6 but as I recall Bill the tug may have had spares on board. It is very difficult to find spares for Gleniffers. Worth checking.

The old launch tugs were rather less than 12ft wide. More like 10ft.

He did heavily modify the topsides making it appear larger.

I've passed there dozens of times and never seen it move.

I remember this getting really thick overplating done. Too thick. It seemed to be 3/4 plate or something. Previously asking £100k at packetboat marina.

It was an impressive transformation !

I'm slightly intrigued about the 1948 date. I thought those little riveted  launch tugs were a bit older than that.

The middle one apparently.

If you did put an engine in it, I wonder how far it might get up the Grand Union before it got jammed between, or under, some part of the infrastructure.

I was idly wondering if it actually got through the Hanwell flight. As I recall it that Boat was overplated either at Highline yachting at Iver on the Slough arm or at Uxbridge Boat centre.

If it was at Highline there is a suspicious possibility that it may have arrived there on a lorry as they are able to handle road transport.

Its an unpowered vessel from up north which had no cabin so road transport does seem to be a fairly probable entry route.A long way to come with no engine and narrow canals in the way.

That could also explain why it is still only a few miles and no locks from Iver.

I did see this being overplated in the 1990s but can't recall exactly where. Definitely GU south somewhere.
