  7. Diagram below shows what I understand to be the position. Red is the existing 240V wiring and sockets, blue is your proposed cable route, shown in the photo above, and green is my alternative suggestion. The green route allows you to route the cable at gunwale height all the way, passing under the step to the stern deck which is much higher than the bow door threshold. Also avoids going anywhere near the stove.

  17. Correct. The idea it will improve standards is a political one in my experience it is no more likely to improve than a school still in LA control ordered to improve.

  21. Two ways of turning a corner, on the Canal de l'Est,(southern portion) and the Rhone-Rhine Canal. The latter was scheduled in the 1970s for large-scale enlargement, a move with major economic consequences, but was cancelled by the French government in the face of local protest. Environmental concern, ironically, was the explanation given

  30. And there's also boats on trains........... I've put this pic up before, so apologies. The first time I saw my boat on a train in Leeds station I was crouched down taking photographs and gibbering to other passengers "That's my boat! That's my boat!" as they carefully backed away. I've travelled with my boat on a train many times since, over the years.

  42. If you have more than one inverter on board and their outputs are not synchronized together, then you potentially have 400 volts plus across them. For this reason, if you have more than inverter on board, the sockets powered from one must be 2 metres (more than an armstretch) away from another.

  43. Yebbut... someone decided that kids could attend any school anywhere in the country. Cue millions of parental journeys to take little Rupert to the school the other side of town with the marginally better Ofsted score. ETA cheaper than improving the standards at all schools which is what the aim should have been.

  46. You are talking about the "apparent resistance" of the load. I was talking about the voltdrop along the cables and what you say will make that worse, much like water pumps. As the voltage at the motor is reduced the current rises so any votdrop along the cables rises and makes matters worse until something overheats or burns out. In motor cases its usually the motor but could be the cable. As for "sucks harder" that "sucks" as they say in the USA. It's the voltage that pushes, there is no sucking involved. Now I will accept that as stabilised power supply or regulator may well reduce its apparent resistance as the voltage falls so current at that reduced voltage remains the same or even increases but talking about "sucking" only serves to make things more difficult for those with less electrical knowledge to get to understand better. If a power supply needs protecting then it should have its own inbuilt protection like the fuse in some cigarette lighter plugs or an under supply voltage shutdown but I am sure many Far Eastern designs do not. That is another matter. The basic rules are cables are sized for the maximum acceptable voltdrop when all the appliances are drawing their stated load and fuses are used to protect the cable. If a power supply/regulator manufacturer dos not protect from under voltage or supplies incorrect current data then that is another thing all together. Without an accurate quoted maximum draw it's not possible to calculate a sensible cable size.
