  6. I would consult the shell fabricator on this. Presumably they have some understanding of vessel handling characteristics and rudder dimensions. It will all be in the plans. Along with things like tons per inch immersion and metacentric height.

  11. If I'd thought about it, I would have known that AdeE would get excited about the paintwork and I would have posted a different picture. My paintwork is uniformly bad across the whole boat as a result of family circumstances & Covid and particularly, single-handing, where I choose to let the boat suffer rather than do more work. There is a slight taper from the end of the cabin to the end of the boat, and the corners are rounded and not as sharp as some I've seen. The tiller arc does not get in the way to a bothersome extent. There is room to work on the engine on both sides and room for that essential, the Hospital silencer. I very rarely get rainwater in the bilge but my gutters are bigger than some people's. In retrospect I would have gone for better shielding around the sides for small children. I see the enthusiam for the rounded stern arising from a sense that, looking at it, it ought to be better for manouvreing. I am happy with my rear end, each to hisher own. I have no interest in selling the idea to others but I do like any discussion to have input from all sides.

  27. You cannot use the resistance of a cold relay coil to tell you how much current it will take, just like an old fashioned light bulb the resistance changes when the coil has pulled the relay shut and heated up slightly. An ammeter is the only way but as it is small the chances are your battery monitor won't even register the difference, maybe if you switch 10 on you will cause about a 1 amp change which should register. Is there an opposite to KISS, because here you have several extra lengths of wire and junctions which are all going to cause volt drop and be points of failure.

  33. But in the poster the sky is a very pale blue, does that help? More seriously, these posters are only to allow CRT to say “look we are doing something”, when actually they are not. This is because the responsible cyclist is already slowing down and taking care around pedestrians, whilst the irresponsible are not going to care one bit about a poster. The blue sky is only a third of the poster, or a third of the cost. The fact that it is all shades of blue shows that CaRT haven't thought it through properly. A speeding cyclist approaching the sign will experience significant blue shift of the light from the sign, due to relativistic effects, pushing the colours deep in to the ultra-violet, making them invisible to the cyclist. It is why fast cyclists wear such cool shades, to protect their eyes from the UV. CaRT should have done this sign to reflect only shades of infra-red, which would then be visible to speeding cyclists, but invisible to the sensibly slow ones. The slogan would then have been "Cyclists, If You Can See This You Are Going Too Fast". A much more sensible use of CaRT's resources. Jen ?

  41. It would improve things more if you cut the corners off the back end and created a boat shape, not a box. Expensive as an aftermarket solution, but why do you think most boats are shaped that way. A far cheaper solution would be to slice a bit off the front and back edges of the rudder rather than the blades. Extending the tiller may also help.

  46. Oh so true. Our Wylex board like that on Jenny B gave 30 years service with no problems and as far as I know continues to do so. The only "problem" was that when the idiot (me) working on the wiring caused a short it needed fuse wire to fix and that does not seem so easy to get hold of NOW these days. Blade fuses are far easier. In the case of an urgent need to turn off a domestic circuit you still have the master switch pending pulling a fuse. This modern practice of fancy control/mcb/switch panels seem to me to be all to do with eye candy rater than reliability.
