THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH May 17
THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

No. It was built as the full length , changed name when moved off the Humber and shortened only when it was converted to it current form. https://shippingandshipbuilding.uk/view.php?a1Order=Sorter_types&a1Dir=ASC&a1Page=149&ref=206079&vessel=NORA+EASTING

Buy and fit new, where you are in control of the suitability and condition of the planks, or rely on planks of unknown age and condition to protect substantial engineering works and the people carrying out those works? H&S considerations would suggest they have taken the right approach, and the cost is trivial in terms of the size of the job.

Thank you. We spoke with 2, very long in the tooth narrowboat mechanics who both said, just take a litre out, and put a litre in, and as long as you match the chemical mix, pink with pink, then we should avoid disasters. I’m hoping that a refractometer reading will match the survey test at the end of May and we won’t need to mess with it this winter, but your point on the concentrate mixing effectively is a good one…🍷🍷

My recollection of fluidics lectures more than half a century ago, is that things like the equations decribing the Bernoulli effect, assume laminar flow, and when turbulence happens, the equations do not apply. My observations of locks filling normally suggest turbulent flow, so the theoretical assumptions may not be entirely appropriate. But then I was only taught a basic knowledge of fluidics, as I was studying electical engineering.

If you use the concentrate it is denser and may not mix effectively with what is there already. If you can, draw out some of what is in there already and use it to dilute the concentrate to help with mixing.
