When we went on the water a couple of weeks ago we stopped and topped up with fuel from. The Boatyard recommended by a member on here.

Really nice helpful people.

It's next to Hilperton marina and we were really impressed with the set up they have there.

Fuel was really reasonable @ £0.82ppl and no fixed 60/40 nonsense, just sign the declaration at your requirement. It transpires they are currently building and fitting out their own fuel coal and gas supply boat and will be operating it between Devizes and Bath fortnightly through the coming winter. Fuel costs will be the same as the depot price as all their coal and gas will be.

So impressed we signed up to their services which are free no obligation. They will run the fuel boat fortnightly and top your boat up automatically even if you're not on board if you desire. Really handy for us as we have separate diesel tanks for heating, and they happen to last about 2 to 3 weeks heavy use, so we'll never run out of heating fuel unless other factors come in to play like weather. So rather than being forced in to a trip for fuel, we'll automatically be topped up every 2 weeks.

I'm sure most locals are aware, but anyone coming into this area for the winter period it could be useful info, especially new boaters.

That'll shake up ABC then!

We stopped for a chat with John & Jenny on Coalboat Roach this morning at Malkins Bank. Over the next few days they're heading down the the T&M to Middlewich, across the branch, then up the Shroppie and back to their base at Awbridge on the Staffs & Worcs. If you're on their route & need supplies, look out for them.

Cheers, Brian

  • 2 weeks later...

We are just about to get our new boat on the cut and will be moored at Mercia Marina so I would be looking at a regular supply of coal for over the winter period. We will only have the usual amount of space to store coal so it is more of a regular supply I am looking at.

October update from Coalboat Alton:-

After our September Cheshire run, we returned to Ashton Packet Boat Company for more repairs & maintenance, this time in their covered wet dock. Jobs being done by Steve & the team included new shutts (false floors) in the hold, repairs to our wooden back cabin & re-painting. As usual they did a cracking job in a short time frame, meaning that Alton is in pretty good condition for hopefully a busy Autumn & Winter ahead.

Our schedule for October 2013 is as follows:-

Fri 27th Sept - Wed 2nd: Whaley Bridge to Preston Brook via Marple, Macclesfield, Congleton, Kidsgrove, Middlewich & Anderton

Thurs 3rd - Fri 4th: Preston Brook to River Weaver via Anderton Boat Lift

Sat 5th - Sun 6th: Acton Bridge Steam Gathering at the Leigh Arms, River Weaver

Sun 6th - Tues 8th Anderton to Ellesmere Port via Middlewich, Nantwich & Chester

Wed 9th - Sun 13th: Ellesmere Port to Whaley Bridge & Bugsworth via Chester, Barbridge, Middlewich, Kidsgrove, Congleton, Macclesfield & Marple

Mon 14th - Tues 15th: Bugsworth Basin to Oakgrove (Br49 Macc), via Marple

Sat 19th - Sun 20th: Fendermaking Course at Audlem Mill

Sat 26th - Sun 27th: Oakgrove (Br 49 Mac)to Bugsworth Basin & Whaley Bridge via Macclesfield & Marple

Mon 28th - Tues 29th: Whaley Bridge to Oakgrove (Br49 Macc), via Marple & Macclesfield

Please note this is our planned schedule, which may be subject to change due to traffic, customer volume, stoppages & weather. If you require supplies, to ensure delivery please text or call us on 07791345004.

Cheers, Brian

Myself and Victoria are heading down the River Stort and Lea from Harlow all the way up to Stone for the third weekend in October, and then back to London through Birmingham... shame I couldn't do this run all winter, certainly provide an interesting and varied set of canals!

Although we don't do deliveries by boat, we do offer a road delivery service for coal, Calor and diesel between Great Haywood and Western Lock on the T&M, along the Coventry from Fradley to Fazeley and down the B&F to Bodymoor Heath (we also cover some areas of Aldridge and West Midlands). Just received the winter supply of coal 20kg smokeless at £8.50, Calor at £25 for 13kg and diesel currently fluctuating - apparently due the Syrian crisis but call for prices on 07931 271 571
