A barge pole.  (runs to the bunker…)

I'm in the bunker too - never seen anyone use one that didn't look to be making things worse! :help:

The only time we really (and I mean REALLY) needed ours was turning the boat at Cobbler's Lock on the Kyme Eau. Thought we were going to have to wade through the filth and weeds to get ashore at one stage. There might have been a better way to wind, but we couldn't find it.

Only time we used our pole was after we came to a grinding halt on the sand bar at the down stream end of the tunnel at Ellesmere on the Llangollen. It actually worked more by good luck than management though a boat coming the other way and rocking us may have helped! I’ve never used my boarding (scaffold) plank though and they both need painting. Trouble is the rests would look daft with nothing on them…..

Bow haul or borrow a horse

I wasn’t meaning that you’d need it for propulsion.

But as I’m sat on a sofa at home watching the cricket on my wide screen TV, what would I know?
