phillarrow
I've seen a few comments on here about how unrealistic some/many/most YouTubers are in the picture they paint of living on a narrowboat. This lead me to wonder if there are any who do paint a reasonably realistic picture? I'm not asking for opinions of who is the 'best', but are there any who tell it like it really is? Though he's been doing other stuff lately. Still relevant though. https://www.youtube.com/@RobbieCumming Edited December 24, 2023 by MJG

Stroudwater1
I quite like Narrowboat Will, he’s vaguely bonkers, a pretty prolific cruiser but shows it as it is usually. Cruising the cut is decent, just bought a GRP cruiser. However many or most just do it for the money which is sad as the commercialisation means they aim to be sensational and nor be realistic. I think David from cruising the cut is very commercial now- some are sponsored by ABC. He does produce good quality generally, as a former journalist. What I don’t understand is why anyone would be a Patrion, costs a lot and they get “sneak previews “ A lot of Patrions it seems are from the USA. Some of the questions are more amusing than the content. 1

Yeah, in one of his recent videos he was advertising watches. 1 hour ago, davem399 said: That’s Keith, known as Country House Gent, his site is Travels by Narrowboat. RichM
I've always liked Flow With Mylo. He doesn't post often but his content is fun and good quality. And of course, Court Above The Cut, both of course very different. It's good that David from Cruising The Cut has got another boat. His videos aboard seem more entertaining, almost giving a sensation of going along for the ride.
Napton
Most of them find everything “stunning” as they film their boat chugging along or show endless scenes of going through locks. There’s one I’ve watched a bit of with a couple of guys on a newish electric boat. They seem to have had so much trouble with it and things replaced. They’re all very samey I think. magnetman
No it was dry paint I wanted to watch There was a world of difference. Watching dry paint means you can experience reality. Watching paint dry means all you experience is drying paint. Totally different ball game .
booke23
Realism and youtube don't naturally go hand in hand, as creators need views to make money and hence be entertaining. Having said that Cruising the cut is quite good, especially his earlier videos. After he sold his boat he lost his way a little and his channel struggled....he seemed to be less relevant somehow which wasn't helped when his channel suddenly got very commercialised. However now he has a GRP cruiser I feel things are improving. Another one I enjoy is https://www.youtube.com/@NarrowboatJourneys. I don't really watch his cruising videos but do enjoy his Vlog and tips videos. Having lived aboard for over 30 years he has some very interesting stories and tells them well, including how isolating and lonely it can be living alone on a boat as a cc'er....he says it how it is. Roper
Another vote for Narrowboatwill. Appreciates the good but also shows the trails and tribulations.
GUMPY
Most of the ones I have seen have their heads so far up their own fundamental they just don't realise just how shyte they really are. I would be embarrassed if I was producing that sort of stuff.

Nobody makes much money out of YouTube or any streaming channel. I think I got about 0.03p for a video that got about twenty thousand hits. If they're making money, they're being sponsored to advertise stuff, even if it's just product placement rather than blatant advertising. The usual internet rule applies - believe nothing!
