  1. Yes I like them too, for me they’re what fall in to the posh and fancy butcher shop category, where they have lots of different flavoured stuff and maybe their own trays of different recipes of marinated meats, the butcher’s counter at Great Haywood Farm Shop is another example and I like that too, but too much choice confuses me and my favourite of favourites has to be the counter at the back of Todmorden’s in door market, on the right, nothing fancy but high quality, most of their stuff is kept in their walk in fridge and bought out to cut to size in front of you, and for Black Pudding the butcher in Whaley Bridge up the hill opposite the CoOp I’ll make a point of looking for the butcher’s in Atherstone next time I pass, Penkridge has a fine butcher too, good for pies and samosas 🤤
  2. It’s possible you meant to provide this link https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/26/a-broad-view-of-canal-boat-licence-fees your’s links back to another article you posted before eta: oh no my mistake sorry, you posted the whole of the article,
  3. price of diesel might be a shocker? It was the most expensive I bought last year. anyway, good luck there 👍 they seemed very nice people.
  4. Will it have made a difference having been tested whilst moored? With a proper flow with the boat moving it might not be much of an issue? It’s kind of what happens with my boat anyway. 🤷‍♀️
  5. As it happened when I passed back through this lock they had divers fixing a ground paddle, While waiting I had a chat to the other workers and I asked about the stop planks, they said it’s a nightmare pushing the planks down with rods, (The lock here at Ware is the responsibility of the Environmental Agency and Little to do with CRT)
  6. I’ve drank out of pint glasses with more scratches than that 👍
  7. Bruges is lovely. used to tour around Belgium on my motorbike visit the the Groeninge Museum if you get the chance. lots of well known medieval paintings,
  8. the railways have their own police force, the British Transport Police, therefore they have some clout when dealing with the scrotes. The canals once had police too when they were commercial? Is it Stoke Bruerne that has an old wooden sign warning miscreants they’d be shipped to Australia? Today’s sign would be for Rwanda.
  9. Thing with super duper systems is they tend to fail on a regular basis, look at the Anderton Lift as an example, and when they fail the specialists have to be called in at great expense, and the super duper system always needs an upgrade, perhaps a bell on either end of a 3 mile piece of string would be fine,
  10. Perhaps some of the 2% could go towards recommissioning the pill boxes, CRT have an opportunity here to apply for funding and lease out back to the M.O.D. we’ve had this one on another thread, bonus point if you remember where it is?
  11. did you go for a pint? If you did how is the pub under new management?
  12. It’s nothing compared to what keeps getting chucked at that there Anderton Lift ..just don’t mention Blue Signs

  14. Yes, I very much agree, and all us tiny fish can make a big collective impact. But I bet there’s a local plane just took off for Spain that’ll burn more fuel (and at some sort of a tax free price to encourage airlines) than collectively as boaters we’ll burn in 🤷‍♀️a day.
  15. I find the idea of cutting down rain forests to feed our machines most disturbing. Me swopping to a biofuel will make not one jot of difference in the grand scheme of things. Neither would 35,000 boaters.
  16. which is pretty good when your footprint is minimal to start with, if only big businesses or big households and big whatevers would halve their footprint. I haven’t driven for 18 months now, that’s my little contribution 👍
  17. Here’s a neat solution, at Ware, I wonder if it’s ever been tried and tested?

  20. Don’t a bow fender need a bit of knocking in to place? Doing a few locks will help put a bit of a groove in the back of the fender so it sits and remains central, and then adjust the links accordingly,
  21. not being an Eagles fan, I didn’t realise the significance of what you said, Johnny Walker mentioned it this afternoon on Sounds of the 70’s. 👍
  22. I used to go Birmingham Odeon when the tickets were £3.50. Don’t think I ever did go Bingley Hall.
