  2. The test is a waste of time and money, as anyone sensible kno. I've had one who failed my fire extinguishers, surprise, he had a car-full to sell me so I'd pass, the one that failed my brand new electrics (installed by the previous examiner) because he didn't understand wiring, the one who made me cut unnecessary holes in the boat, the one who insisted on an addition to the gas locker... And the last one who said it passed with a gas leak within the tolerances but refused to leave till he found it, which seeing as how it was right by the cooker (on a fitting the test insisted I have), I was pleased about, but obviously an ordinary, non gas, safe examiner would have just left me with it. Safety? Don't make laugh. It's a desk jockey's box ticking exercise and a scam, and always was.

  3. I'm perfectly capable of inspecting my boat to determine if it's safe, so I just want the piece of paper to give to CRT; the cheaper the better. MP.

  5. Hooray I was beginning to think everyone had been hoodwinked. It always has been a con.

  6. At the end of March I paid £220 to a very nice inspector who was based in Hemel to do my BSS for this he drove to Northamptonshire spent a few hours on the inspection completed the "paperwork" then drove home. I was very happy with the service. Sadly he retired at the begining of April Have you thought that he/she may have priced it high as they don't want to do your boat

  7. It looks to me as if CaRT don't want me anywhere near the waterways now, wrong inclinations for that image.

  8. Anyone remember Buster who used to do BS tickets over the phone? I quite like fast inspections and getting the CRT off one's back. Right approach to what is after all called the BS scheme.

  11. You are not alone, many of us can see the writing on the wall for the Canals under C&RTs management, and have left C&RTs waters. I'm sure will adjust and wish you the best for which ever way life takes you.

  22. What is your source of flushing water ? From the river, or from the boat water tank pumped by the boat electric pump ?

  24. If you are on the Silsden side of Bradley you will be affected by the culvert failure. Probably another long one. If you on the summit pound above Greenberfield you will be okay

  25. No, I think it was the entitled title of the post, particularly by a new poster that raised the hackles. I like this forum, and have stuck with it because of the general friendly and helpful attitude. But your coming across in a rather demanding way, and if you approached Mr Hemel Hempstead in a similar way, he probably decided to charge you the price you dislike.

  31. I know it's sacrilege, but some lithium users plug the immersion into inverter and go play. I plug my immersion via a timer into a socket for 1/2 an hour a few times/day

  34. If only Victron and other makes made a dump load option that would make it so much easier to do........

  35. These little devices look interesting. Programmable overcurrent relay with hall effect non invasive ammeter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184692219522 You could set it to route power to an alarm at say 25 amps then wire the alarm output through relays to switch on immersion heater. Not sure it would work but might be interesting to play with. Its not a dump for when batteries are full but -maybe- could be used to send power to the immersion heater when there is enough of that power. ETA just noticed in the spec it will switch 6A@230vac Item Type: DC Digital Ammeter Material: Plastic Model: SZD07 Input Voltage: DC8-35V Measurement Type: DC current Range: 0.3-50A Sensor: Hall sensor Sensor Input Current: 25A Sensor Output Voltage: 2.5±0.625V Sampling Frequency: 2 times/s Alarm Output: Upper and lower limit alarms are output from the same relay Contact Capacity: 6A/250VAC, 6A/30VBC, resistive load Working Environment: Temperature -10~50℃, temperature <85%RH non-corrosive places Accuracy Level: 0.5 level

  39. Well, today the Sterling has behaved as expected on all settings, so it's looking like all is well. Comparing the settings, the battery indicator was previously set as 'open lead acid', the factory setting was 'AGM sealed'. The previous owner had 'wet' batteries which we have replaced, so we're not sure if the setting has somehow been changed recently, or whether the Sterling was happy with the sealed batteries on the 'open lead acid' setting until recently (I believe they behave differently) perhaps as they've become older. Anyway, we seem to be back in business. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

  46. Or…you could do what I have done. Decide not to fish at all. I either sit on the boat or a nice comfortable chair on the bank and relax with my chilled lime cordial. No additional licences required. No fish or animals were harmed during the making of the above statement.

  47. No physical restrictions at 12 ft until you get to Birmingham. If you want to CC in Central London between about Kensal Green in the West and Tottenham in the east you will find almost all the available mooring space is taken, and you will probably struggle to find a mooring. You may also fall foul of the Enforcement Officer for not moving enough. But if you increase your range you can CC between Hertford and Bishops Stortford on one side and up to Wolverton (near Milton Keynes) on the other, and you'll never be too far from a rail or underground service into central London. And you'll have much more choice of mooring.
