Someone told me last week that he heard gunshots from the woods opposite the marina (I was opposite at the time), but I must have slept through it ?. About 6ish this evening we heard a gun blast, just the once, which is strange. Sounds like a farmer is scaring something off... I'm intrigued. If you’re still near Gipsy Lane then you have a farm in front of you and one the other side of the quarry to your right (assuming you’re pointing towards Nuneaton). Both of those farms use occasional bird scarers which sound like a shotgun. Other farmers probably do likewise.

I know im old and have been living either in rural australia for the last 15 years or on my extremely basic 1930s boat ( when we left tv was analogue) and the one we stored no longer works but vox pop? one show? ee dongle? vblogger? blogger? its a whole new world i thought having an iphone made me pretty up to date It's all rubbish. But now its digital rubbish instead of analogue rubbish, which means it's more expensive and lower quality. And I've still got a Nokia E90, so I wouldn't worry about being a luddite if I were you... Boater Sam
Nokia 6310 is back in production I believe. All too modern for me , Nokia 1200 dumb phone owner. I first discovered that a tube TV floats face up on the Nuneaton stretch, terrible picture though. On one run we had two complete 3 piece suites, cushions and all, down near the estate iron bridge. And somewhere under that bridge is/was a massive magnet, I watched the guy lose it trying to get his folding truck out, after the cargo net the kids had hung from the bridge, whipped it of his roof. roland elsdon
Before we emigrated to australia we had a clear out. We found the spare phone. It was a motorola with a handset and 10 inch battery pack. It fired up... but of course was an analogue phone..

Detonators are still used but a single shot is a warning to a moving train that a signal in advance could be at danger. Seems unlikely in that area and if used that way there would be single shots at frequent intervals on such a busy line. A complete blockage requires 3 detonators spaced out 20yds so a train encroaching would set off 3 shots in quick succession, unless an approaching train accidently hit the first det and then stopped. Given the freight train derailment there that could be a possibility as an assisting loco approached.
