Lancaster Canal breach

Not vandalism then?   I think that is CRT's usual claim.

Or boaters leaving top and bottom paddles up on a lock flooding downstream.

Its a canal of no great importance anyway. CRT want it closed as it cost them to staff it. They have made lame excuses to prevent passage all year, death by attrition.

Given that they have just come up with the strategy to get boats down the link, it will be frustrating for those waiting to get accross to now be stuck above the breach, which must be mostas not many boats venture to the southern part of the canal.

I have been watching this on Facebook for a few days, at first they thought it was because the reservoirs were turned off, however the pictures showed water going in but clearly doing nothing to help

Next one will be on the L&L at Parbold. Theres been a sink hole appearing in the towpath near me and CRT keep looking into it.... quite literally. Their response Couple of barrows of stone and fence it off.....

It must be getting more serious as the orange plastic fence has been upgraded to two pieces of block and mesh....

I think we are about to reach grounhog day. Richard Parry and colleagues have been betting on managing to persuade the new government to up their support.

If it doesn't happen then closures and sale of assets seems to be the only options.

It may not be important to you but it's very important to those that live and travel there, and is truly beautiful so important in its own right.

It's a lovely canal and well worth a visit, given the difficulty CRT has imposed on getting there I am not surprised at people's attitude to going there

So unimportant that only 25 or so years ago British Waterways constructed a whole new section of navigation to make it more accessible to boats on the rest of the system.

Pretty yes, important to who?  Its a dead end channel, no loss to the system as a whole. Turn it all into a SSSI.  Save money.

Maybe it’s important to all the people that walk, run, fish, boat, paddle board, canoe and sit by it. Maybe important to the Kingfishers and people with moored boats there too. Hope that answers your daft question

Since it's obvious you are making this comment again purely to get a bite, then I'll give you one. ...with a force of 1,000 PSI

That will be us then 😂. Nothing we can do about it. Not a bad place to be marooned I guess  CRT phoned regarding this breach and the Ribble a couple of days ago. They still reckon they'll get us back to the 'mainland' (we were booked to go to Tarleton for September). How, I'm not sure 😀

The daft part is that boaters pay for everyone elses' pleasures, walking, fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing and squatting, sorry, sitting. The kingfishers can look after themselves. And once the moored boats have gone they can all have it to themselves and we boaters won't have to pay for it.  CRT will be delighted.

It aggravates me no end when you see the CRT workboats working on resurfacing miles of remote towpaths and then the next set of locks you encounter are leaking and the paddle mechanisms are faulty.

I don't pretend to know about CRT finances and CRT priorities and CRT work practices but all I do know is that the optics, from a boaters perspective, are awful.

You mean that they are not the 35ml ones !

5 Spirit Measures Drinks Bar Optics Measure 35Ml

If they are still using the old 25ml optics they should be boycotted !

Where's that one? We're in Parbold now...

It's a great place to overwinter, just ask Ange.

That was our plan (B - plan A was Summer but didn't realise how far in advance we'd have to book)! There's supposed to be an update on the Ribble Link on 30th July but it seems doubtful that it'll be open to any normal service.
