  7. None of us have to look if we don’t want to, but if it encourages people to get out and boat it’s all good stuff, here’s a photo from a year ago, under Spaghetti Junction.

  8. I agree and i suspect the original post was intended to trigger a row, so ignored it. It's perfectly possible to find a kill trap big enough to take a rat, I actually have a couple, although I tend to deal with rats with the air rifle, the mice on the other hand love peanut butter

  9. Most people wouldn't dream of botching any other piece of navigational equipment on their boats so I'm not quite sure why we have so many suggestions to that effect on this subject? It's not about whether you're going to get into trouble for having an incorrect navigation light, it's a more about making sure the light is the correct colour and brightness to actually be seen and function as a navigation light. For that reason forget about green bulbs, green paint, nail varnish, moulding your own lens 😂, and either replace the lens or the whole light with a new one.

  19. Don't forget the Bridgewater six-planker motor conversions. I could only find this photo in the Waterways Archive collection. Note that the counter on Alice is formed by vertical planking fitted around the conventional horse boat stern.

  28. Makes one wonder why you use a humane trap in the 1st place - why not just get one that breaks their neck - saves you a lot of bovver.

  30. Here's a picture of my old lpsw4 starter. Sadly a knacker but if yours is like this then the solenoid is part of it. This for a standard earth return marine build 47. I'm sure a search using the part numbers will throw up lots of suppliers at lots of prices...

  35. Those of us here who are likely to contribute to such topics almost certainly have some innate practical ability, but my time in FE tells me there are people around who do not so appear to believe or do, what to us, look like stupid things. This is a good reason not to keep on pointing out that a post looks like a wind up or a bot. However, when the OP fails to respond to suggestions and question in a sensible way, I think they forfeit such consideration.

  38. There’s a significant history of motorising boats built to be towed. The reality is that a much larger number of unpowered boats than have already would meet their demise if they weren’t converted in some form. Lesser of two evils perhaps. Boats are living things.

  48. If it helps one person embarking on a sailaway project to avoid one bad decision then it will have been worth my while doing this "rant". I agree its not light reading, I'm no writer. If reading it was compulsory I would not write it but its not. And its not as bad as the personal invective in the Political section. I'm a little disappointed that it is Blackrose of all people choosing to cast solid round objects.
