  3. It's been a long time since we had a proper Winter spell, a couple of Beasts from the East is about all we have had in the last 10 years. Starting from about Wednesday onwards, it really does look more likely that an extended cold spell could hit the UK for the first time since 2010. By next weekend, the temps will struggle to get above freezing in the daytime, and plummet overnight. We will have snow, how much and how long it lasts is an unknown as yet. In 2009 I was iced in for 13 weeks, in 2010, 2 months(2 locations in Central London so not quite as cold...slight thaw on 17th December). There is probably a large amount of boaters havnt seen a winter with the potential of this one so..... Stock up on coal, gas, diesel. Get your pumpout asap. Think about secondary glazing if you dont have double glazing. Fill your water tank. Make sure you dont block your vents. ...just a heads up.

  18. Right, I finally made it yesterday after a month off the boat doing me family stuff. Came down (and up) from Long Itchington yesterday, after a late start just made it for dark and came straight in pub. I like it. I think I very much like it. It’s a good pub. Thought it might be big and soulless but it’s a small gaff with a proper pub feel to it. Sadly I might have to stay longer than I thought, while I wait to get some coal. But hey, I’ll cope til Monday. £4.40 a pint which hurts, but the beers are ace and kept in proper top condition. Would I make a long detour again to get to it? Perhaps not, but it’ll always be on my stop over places should I be this way again. 👍👍👍

  22. This was the view from our back deck on 6 December 2010. Only stuck for 7 weeks as previous couple of weeks was mostly river. And this is 6 February 2009 in Hartford Marina

  24. You seem to be having a lot of problems with your cassettes. Time to install a pump out perhaps 🙂. Sorry, couldn't resist !

  25. My understanding is the OP wants this continuous, rock solid, bullet proof-reliable high speed connection for eight hours a day whilst actually cruising along, which could be anywhere. I don't think it is possible.

  29. Too many people keep cats. I have a running battle with one which is intent on killing the birds around me.

  34. Johnstones used to produce a red oxide gloss paint which was the same colour as red oxide primer but with a gloss waterproof finish and fine as a top coat. We used it for years on the cabin top, hold, front deck, planks and stands etc. on Fulbourne, but sadly they don't make it any more.

  37. Definitely West country. Janners use it all the time.. 'Where we going to now ?' 'Any idea where I put that screwdriver to?' 'Any idea where Asders is to? Is it near the Cwop?' And so on.

  43. Whilst this is lovely to know, and useful for a 17th century farmer, it bears very little resemblance other than the term raddle(which was a harness, not a paint). To develop a red non porous topcoat red oxide type finish with non slip benefits was new to the paint and narrowboats. Phil managed it. ...and someone else tried to copy it.

  46. Why. Without landlords you wont have homes. I have rented, bought , bought to rent, rented while being a landlord, been an involuntary landlord ,and recently made myself voluntarily homeless while renting out a property to others, rather than end their lease and inconvenience them. Its not simple.

  48. If you buy ''neat stuff'' don't mix it with tap water especially if it's hard water. Buy distilled water or use rain water which is distilled and just filter it through a cloth first. Or thawed ice from a fridge.
