It might of been you I was chatting with yesterday then :)

were you mooring up as we spoke?

With the big friendly dog?

Not really as it doesn't cost CRT anything to disrupted the canal for boaters.

no it doesn’t,

but along with other stoppages,

it allows them to play the poverty card,

and why not play it?

even if they do have a stash under the bed.

I’ve more sense than to keep a chainsaw. Wouldn’t trust meself.

It’s a proper big tree,

and oak,

hoping for some off cuts

I’m happy waiting,

Came here to rest up awhile anyway,

so a tree down is really no bother to me personally,

But naturally there are folk here who need/want to be elsewhere.

My early Christmas present at Brewood PO will still be waiting there 👍

Big branches are easily removed with a bow saw. ,😎

You’re right,

👍

But the good branches are out sticking in the cut,

and I ain’t dancing down no tree trunk, 💃

to get them,

the one pointing down to the towpath is rotten and ain’t worth the effort,

There is lot of stored energy in a tree in that position.

I know, it was a tongue-in-cheek suggestion... 😉

(a chainsaw? on a tree suspended over water? with nothing to support it? what could *possibly* go wrong? 😉

If you can get them to cut it into 6 inch discs you're a better nan than me.

A chainsaw will be used to dismantle it to be fair.

This is where a @tree monkey is needed for commentary.

Or a crazy boater with a really big Stihl saw and a mission to get to the water point.

My little Makita 18 volt chain saw is quite good

One must be sure to keep the chain sharp and enough bar oil in the tank.

I wouldn’t have thought it enough to deal with me nasal hair.

They reckon they’ll be open for business first thing Monday morning.

Coal boat Halsall has now had to cancel their trip south with deliveries being rescheduled by van or cancelled, so I'm guessing this is no longer the case.

How specialist is this boat that a temporary replacement can't be used?

Yes, just read about that,

sounds like Halsall is being messed about with poor ‘communication’,

I think Wednesday reopening.....but 🤷‍♀️ who knows?

He has also written a long speal about his communications with CRT about the matter, available to read on Facebook, I will try and re-find it

This is a good question.

Gosty Hill springs to mind as a similar tunnel but with no rescue boat.

I think there have been more rescues carried out up the Anderton/Preston Brook  end than Harecastle

After my experience of being ripped off by Halsall, I think their complaint about lack of "transparency, open and honest" communications are a bit thick!

Perhaps the temporary replacement rescue boat is at the wrong end of the tunnel?

😁

I wonder why a rescue boat is essential for Harecastle and yet unnecessary for most tunnels?

Maybe a knee-jerk reaction to the unfortunate death there several years ago of a steerer who fell off the stern and drowned?

I say "knee-jerk" because the risk in Harecastle is no different to many other tunnels which don't have a rescue boat...

Wasn't that in Gosty Hill tunnel?
