No, it's not stopping sewage pumping or taking action against the water companies....you can see the priorities these eminent politicians have.

Oh, and today the GB triathlon team have had to abandon their training camp on the River Wyre due to sewage and chemical levels in the River Wyre at Fleetwood.

Latest sea sewage dumping map, happy holidays...

The depressing fact is that some members here will still vote for them, come the next opportunity to throw them out.

And do you think the others will invest enough in the infrastructure to stop the sewage dumping

No, the really depressing fact is that grim as they are, the current lot are the best available.

If you think things are bad now, stand by to see the economy really trashed when Starmer's lot get in.

I shall avoid the obvious trap of bringing this thread into political disrepute. I merely think of 13 years of nothing being done to improve sewerage, or poo in rivers and on beaches and remind you to be careful what you wish for.

These are trivial complaints in the big scheme of things.

Mortgage costs rocketing, repossessions rocketing, wages stagnating/falling behind, food inflation running at 17%, core inflation still 7%+. Rents almost doubled in the last three years. People being thrown out of their homes. NHS crumbling. Russia invading Ukraine, and poo in the rivers is the thing most important to you?!

The clue to my reply is in the thread title.

When you are paying billions out in shareholder and director bonuses, perhaps a set of properly run and regulated water companies should be investing themselves.

I'm certainly no fan of "Starmers lot", aka "Tory Lite", but they would have some challenge to do the same damage as was achieved in just a week or two by Truss / Kwarteng.

Or, of course, for the constant downward trajectory of virtually everything over the last ten years. I'd be intrigued to see a list of how most of us are better off.

It makes you wonder what the "economy" is for, if we all just get worse off, the roads fall to bits, people do their own dentistry and the only growth industry is food banks.

Interesting news is that Wilko's are going into bankruptcy having managed to pay their family owners three million quid in dividends last year . Awful when you can't make a business pay.

But it did pay *them*, which is all that matters, surely? 😞

Back on topic,  it would be interesting to see if these Elmbridge moorings are actually illegal, or that is just another lazy use of the word also used to terrorise the asylum seekers.

Are these the ones where the boaters are claiming the towpath which is not registered to anyone is going to be theirs in 7 years timr

The problem is that the council don't have powers to control moorings.

It isn't "illegal moorings" it is "moorings we can not control".

This is the basic problem..

Richmond and Hounslow applied for and got byelaws to control moorings. Elmbridge are looking at the Public Space Protection Order option.

A bit of googling unearths quite a lot of information on this situation.

Why should an exile (20 years ? since leaving the UK) be concerned about who is in power in the Uk and what they are, or are not, doing. Maybe he should worry about Macron.

The regulators and Civil Servants are responsible for rectifying this situation. The laws are already in place and just need enforcing.

I wish i could get a job on one of these quangos; all the well paid salaries, or even worse, generous non taxable expenses without any responsibility.
