Do CRT have a published map of mooring duration limits?

This has probably been asked before so apologies if so - the search function didn't turn anything up.

I know CRT have the Reference Map that identifies locations on the canals etc., and I know they occasionally give out PDFs showing mooring limits where it relates to something like a consultation. I've never found a map the describes what length of stay is permitted at a given location... but surely (right?) they have a digital map and don't just rely on dodgy signposts on the towpaths when they themselves want to check whether a given spot is 2 day/14 day mooring etc.?

I use opencanal map which has certain notations. I note that hereabouts some person has removed certain signs, but left the posts in place, I'm not sure, but it might be a boater annoyed to find a two day mooring on the Rochdale when there are so few boats anyway. It seems odd.

I have found a couple of these in PDF format via Google, but don't know if or where they are linked to on CRT's website. Here's an example: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/11233-bath-to-bradford-on-avon-visitor-moorings.pdf

I would be very curious if there's a proper directory of them somewhere because I do find them very useful for planning.

I wonder if they actually do identify short term moorings on their iPad database, I assume it's just a record of a particular boat on a particular day, uploaded to the main  computer, the licencing officer gets sent a report scans it, then sends out notifications. Again I'd be surprised if the LO had sufficient local info to do do this with a high degree of accuracy DAMHIK.

To keep the records up to date would they actually send someone out every day.  I think they rely on most boaters taking them as advisories and complying.

Yes that's the sort of thing, but I've only come across them for the odd couple of particularly busy spots.

You'd think it might make CRT's job a bit easier if they can provide boaters with a comprehensive guide to moorings.

That was my thought - presumably they have something comprehensive that they refer to when deciding a boat has overstayed. Part of their GIS would seem to be the obvious place for it. I just dream of a world where everyone uses GIS effectively!

They are very good👍
but are they up to date?

I see they got the old logo on them

CRT are currently training 437 volunteers in website management where they can update the weekly,  daily and indeed hourly moorings changes as each local manager and enforcement officer attempts to dictate a form of change where none is needed, in reaction to local IWA meeting and dog walker facebook posts.

Nominal 24 hour moorings can easily be altered to 2 or 4 hours with a simple blue plate with sticky back developed by a company owned by a CRT director costing only £285 each including installation costs.

I can see those lasting!

Folks round here just remove unwanted signs.

Sticky back sounds a bit like adhesive, B&Q sell some at £9.99, should do about a hundred signs, but you can buy them on my eBay site for £999.

That explains a lot. SAP is the worst system in the world. BA had a good system and then went down hill when it moved to SAP. The use of paper went up though

There are maps available that show mooring time restrictions. But they are not produced by CRT and you have to buy them. They show lots of other info too such as water points, elsans, pump outs, rubbish bins and recycling bins, toilets, showers, where you can buy diesel and gas and other useful info. https://www.waterwayroutes.co.uk/. I must declare an interest here in that I help to keep them updated.

Interesting, thanks. I think I'm more looking for something published by CRT which shows more precise lengths for each mooring zone, to prevent/more quickly resolve any dispute (reliance on a 3rd party provider risks CRT changing a mooring restriction without it being up to date in a purchased map, despite best intentions and efforts).

CRT do indeed have all the locations of Visitor Mooring on their internal GIS system and a lot more such as the location of permanent towpath moorings, offside moorings, backwater moorings and Winter Moorings. These are used by their Data Collectors and any Volunteer Mooring Rangers to record boat index sightings using the systems  GPS coordinates. Craft Licencing will then use the data to see whether any further action is necessary.

It would be helpful if the Visitor Mooring locations were shown on the Canal Reference Map,maybe someone on here connected with the Navigation Advisory Group could raise this request with CRT.

If a boater is concerned that they may get into a dispute with CRT about their mooring,I've always found the best solution is to contact Craft Licencing to discuss the issue, rather than wait for the enforcement process to kick in.

I sent an FOI request to CRT asking if they've got comprehensive visitor mooring information for the network. You can get the boaters guides for a lot of places from https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/boating/go-boating/planning-your-boat-route/downloadable-waterway-guides - I've just requested all of them, we'll see what happens

There's also a smaller set of mooring maps via https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/about-us/document-library?keyword=mooring+map but it's far from comprehensive

There wont be a dispute, there are signs at the moorings

Thanks!

As an aside, this sort of information (links to pertinent information made available but sometimes not obvious by CRT) would be very much at home on a wiki of some description...
