There wont be a dispute, there are signs at the moorings

Not always very good signage. Plus being able to plan ahead effectively can be quite important.

Here's a list of all the boaters guides they host (requested via that link, then de-tracking-URL'd them from the email CRT sent me):

That's quite promising, though not quite the detail/clarity that they could offer. E.g.:

doesn't really help all that much.

But even then you wont know if there will be any spaces so you can't plan to that degree.

I believe down South with their fancy ways in London we can book a mooring.

Maybe go West End and see a marvellous play darling

or eat some cockles me mate,

I might just take me rat and mouse

put me whistle on,

have a cow’s half and a few sherbets,

have a butchers and view the dolly mixtures

sounds rather pleasant,

and all for diddly squat

I've heard it's quite common to get to your booked mooring to find a boat already in it and no crew in sight.

The better half gets quite anxious if we're not moored up by 2:30-3pm, so i'd not enjoy it for that reason. I'm less bothered by it and will quite happily plod along, something always turns up.

Not last time we were in Braunston (where we were booked for dinner), every last space was full -- had to "borrow" a commercial boat mooring, got a knock on the roof at 8am the following morning...

So something did turn up, nobody said it had to be a legit spot ;) Trick is to always be away before 7am.

We ended up cruising in the dark when on the Warwickshire Ring as, due to a few hours hold up at Lock 1 on the GU after making the turn at Bordesley, we found where we'd intended to stop full so ended up on the lock landing at Minworth Top at something past 10pm

Not always popular after an evening in the pub... 😉

Yeah, I won’t be booking,

I’ll take me chances, as you say something always turns up.

Trouble with booking is you’re stuck with a plan,

I tend to change my mind all the time.

Latest plan is to head to Limehouse in a couple of weeks

Never been along the Lee or Stort Navigations

OK, you suggest that to my wife... 😉

I'd need some background info first. Is she;

A. a redhead

B. fast on her feet

C. all of the above

If the answer is yes to any of those, then no bloody way, as i've got C at home and the bruised ribs to prove it :D

Ahhhhhh, you've taken a leaf from the LadyG playbook and pulled a cheeky edit ;)

She seems lovely, interesting jewellery, and wearing those shoes i fancy my chances over a short distance before all those years of smoking catch up with me ;)

I bet she's a whizz at clearing the prop too!

A picture tells a thousand words... 😉

Isn't that a Prop Mate (or whatever they're called) in her right hand?

The Lee and Stort get better the further up you go in my opinion (just persist past the bit between about Stonebridge and Enfield). Good train connections all the way to the top of each too! Well worth it.

I’m glad you said that, I will have to catch train at some point for a family visit.
I imagined it’d get better as the distance from London grew.

Cheers 🍻

You do get a bit short of laundrettes on the Lee upstream of Hoddesdon, though now that I'm experiencing life outside of London even that seems like a dream in some places!
