  3. Just a friendly word of warning. I do not look at canal stuff on you tube as a general rule, however I once had one come up to watch so I did!!! I then looked at several others often by what it seems are prolific posters. These people give mountains of advice on all things boating and living aboard. It was blatantly obvious to me that apart from much of it being incorrect that many, in fact nearly all are newbie boaters with less than five years boating. Just be careful what advice you follow!!!!

  7. Was it one of those pipe fenders dangling on a rope that some people insist on leaving down when cruising?

  10. Did he??? I thought he was dead! But being serious, it is more that the proprietor has an "I have an irrational hatred of CRT (and BW previously) and seek out every opportunity to heap criticism on them even if this involves making stuff up", kind of thing.

  27. The first canal I took the current Mrs T, when we were courting, was on was the Roachdale from Sowerby Bridge, to Summit and return. It will sort out "The men from the boys." You will learn much about boating and relationships. Survive that and you will manage any canal. Stunning scenery and Hebden Bridge is well worth spending a day or two in: http://www.hebdenbridge.co.uk/ Shire Cruisers: https://www.shirecruisers.co.uk/index.php Well appointed and turned out boats.

  29. There's a winding hole on the Leicester Line, not far south of Watford Gap services, that is in metres not feet. I have no idea whether I could wind my boat there or not.

  34. Do you have a mains land line on your boat? We have fitted these and are most useful when hooked up. Not had any issues with any attachment being "Buggered up." We also use the USB sockets from the inverter when cruising.

  38. We weren't actually based at Wrenbury but with our share boat Rufford we did a remote handover there once. The marina staff apparently were very helpful and looked after the turn round procedures efficiently. At that time - around 2007 - there were a number of Ownerships boats based there and I think we did consider it as a base but chose Norbury junction instead. We have eaten at both the Dusty Miller and the Cotton Arms and found them both very good. We have called there a number of times over the years and the only minor niggle is the swing bridge which can cause minor congestion at busy times which might make leaving the marina awkward, especially if turning right. Enjoy your new base. Howard

  39. Next time the system is hot the level will be higher as coolant expands when it gets hot, so see how high it Is then. Don’t fill too high when cold or it will overflow when it gets hot.

  42. Just as a warning - are you aware that reduced voltage to most electric motors like your water pump and shower pump (if you have one) will result in them turning slower AND demanding more current. This can and does burn them out if allowed to go on for long periods.

  44. Up date. Took our forms in to local council offices today, met by yet another smiley happy girl at desk ( amazing these days ) I alloted to pick my stuff up and/or use the council offices for any correspondance ( This is a choice given on the form ) I await to see if it actualy goes through with no hassle. I actualy used a licensed cafe I used to own as the place I use a lot to enable registration in this district. I gave email and two telefone numbers.........we shall see. Bye the way registration for the forthcoming G/E has to be in by 26th november.

  45. I may be wrong, as I often am, but owners of air cooled Listers harp on about how simple and reliable they are, when in reality they’ve got as many inbuilt faults as anything else. Just without the water. But it does give the real concrete heads an excuse for being so ignorant. They actually can’t hear you making polite conversation.

  48. On reflection, How was this "feedback" obtained? Was a poll conducted to determine whether the forum should include a Political and Current Affairs Forum, or was a decision made by the admin team, based upon the lobbying of a vociferious minority? As six of the eight threads started in the Political & Current Affairs forum, since it was introduced, have been started by the same person, perhaps it should be re-named the "Parahandy Soapbox" forum.

  49. The proliferation of political, or politically inspired threads is annoying, and has made me visit the Forum less often. Change the software so that individual threads can be made invisible please. If possible, control the few members whose offensive/libellous comments cause deep offence. You can probably guess how I have voted in this poll.
