  2. Thank you all for your help guys. UPDATE - Success!! Backed the nuts off about a turn, ran in gear fore and aft for a few minutes, then left it in fore for about 15 minutes on low revs. Started seeing a dribble, then a bit more than a dribble! Turned the engine off, flooded the gland with grease then tightened back up (much slower this time) until it just stopped dripping. I'm amazed that it seems to be almost perfect now. I don't get a drip when the engine is off. I get a drip about every 30-40 seconds when in gear and the housing is staying cool when in use. Thanks again, this forum and the contributors have been so helpful to me, even when not actually posting myself.

  20. I had someone ask me if I had good insurance once as I passed his boat in the (very thin) ice! I told him politely that I had because my hull is in good condition. Didn’t stop him moaning. I’d like to make an offer to any worried forum members. If you have to get your boat somewhere and don’t feel happy about breaking the ice I’ll happily clear a way for you with mine. Of course there would have to be a charge to cover my time, shall we say £50 an hour? Think of all the money you’ll save on blacking.. Midland area only please, PM’s welcome.

  22. As the OP's question has now been answered it seems traditional to go off topic. The Honda dealer used to charge about £90 for the oil in my Accord service, and that was about ten years ago. they were charging for fully synthetic. I pointed out that the handbook said semi-synthetic so next time they only charged me £85 for the oil.

  23. If you think an ecofan will shift hot air from one end of the boat to the other you are in for a disappointment............

  33. Words fail me, all I can offer is to echo what others have said. I'm not sure where you are but I have a 70ft very comfortable and nice boat at Harefield on the Southern GU. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to have you as a guest and go for a cruise. Like (too) many, I also have my demons. My daughter was murdered in 2004. does time heal? No, but it does become SO much easier to deal with as the years go by. I can talk about it now openly without it disrupting my day let alone a month. Wishing you an amazing recovery and quality of life. Mark

  36. I should have specified SR2s - would have saved some bandwidth. Interestingly, I succumbed to idleness and emailed a reply to RCR to book a service as they suggest in their mail. It bounced. Just re-sent it. It bounced again. Maybe I should try again, without mentioning that it's an SR2...

  46. These are Sabina villas aren’t they, this was Liddell dock that ran across Horton road and up past Uxbridge football club. In the late 50s early sixties my dad can remember pelting sunken wooden sabey boats with his catapult. My family are all from Yiewsley and my grandparents worked on sabey boats my grt grandfather being a tug driver and my Nan’s brother working on the crane unloading boats.

  49. Its nowt. I bought a boat from a bloke a few years back built with 6 mil sides and bottom. I got it VERY cheap as in his eighteen years of ownership he stated he had never had it out of the water or blacked. I had it out and docked and checked and the worst bit was around 5.7 mil. A bit of paint missing on the waterline is nowt to worry about anyway, just be sensible and whack some back on in the summer or next year. Its all part of the cheap liveaboard lifestyle or hobby lol.
