  16. You didn't miss much, mate. While the last word was very illuminating, being a glass is half full kind of Tumshe I get bored with childish spats very quickly and am easily distracted by more exciting happy conversations. Oooooh shiny........ Some very sound principles - Though I try to avoid arousing eager wants in people, it tends to get me in a whole world or trouble.

  17. I gave up on logic and most people, i learnt their was no logic or set patterns in people to make any reasonable conclusion to their logic and behaviours. Now I muck about on a boats and keep things simple. (Ow it's so much easier now)☺️

  19. Then why mention it at all if it wasn't some form of "warning" - would you feel the need to mention something similar to a man? Or would you just trust their judgment. Or were you just using me as a way to have a dig at another forum member - because I don't appreciate being weaponised for the use of in someone else childish spat.

  21. I would second the suggestion of Streethay, they are competent and honest in their work and have all the trades on site. The problem is that it will cost as much or more than fitting out a new shell of the same size and any increase in value will be very small. Your thinking follows the route of one of boatings classic mistakes, after stripping the shell out it usually dawns on the owners that it is a worn shell with a knackered engine and the sentimental attachment isn't really that great. While not wishing to criticise the advice from your surveyor you must see the vested interest in hanging on to old boats! I speak as one who has made a living for many years out of providing furniture and fittings for boat owners who are making improvements or fitting out from scratch, and have even written the book on boat furniture. Please take a long hard look and talk to other boaters who have had a go at this before spending any cash and bear in mind that anyone who claims to be capable and able to make an early start is very suspect, you can easily be taken to the cleaners if you are not carefull. mike.

  24. They still do it in Scotland - it's a pre wedding tradition called a blackening, they don't use tar but treacle or any thing a little unpleasant. It's really just an excuse to sit in the flat bed of a pick-up or in a big trailer and get pissed and shout at every body as you go passed - all very good fun. And LOUD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackening_(Scottish_wedding_custom)

  34. Frankly this bit is hardly true. Fine to warn people about risks but best not to make stuff up to excagerate one’s case. Yes CO is produced in microscopic quantities by a correctly running gas burner but such quantities will not kill you once mixed in the large volume of cabin air. Or even if you breathed it neat. Your comments really only apply to solid fuel appliances.

  35. Ha ha. Reminds me of when I worked at Smithfield Market Post Office in the late 70s. We only had one position (out of four) that did passports etc so if anyone was unfortunate enough to have joined the wrong queue we used to delight in saying "Far queue" to them when they got to the front of the wrong queue. Such fun! Happy daze.

  37. I always used foam board on the underside of sliding hatches. It has an impervious surface which can be wiped clean and comes in thicknesses from 1mm upwards. You can get a self-adhesive version, but I always used a contact adhesive - enjoy the fumes! Chris G

  39. My CO monitor in the sitting room is slightly higher than it maybe should be, it's just above head hight. MtB will know but I don't think you're meant to have them lower than where you head might be. I don't think CO is heavier than air in that it would sink to the floor and accumulate there first. But there's an awful lot of assumptions in all that. Yeah - but you called him MUG.

  45. I find it interesting that a lot of shiny boaters go on about how they like the 'traditional' things on the cut (Buckby cans, roses, castles, faux rivets etc) but when it comes to working locks or getting ahead they crawl along, moan about 'speedsters' who want to get past and spout (especially on uTube) such rubbish as "If you are in a hurry you shouldn't be on the canal"
