Poll: Boat dweller or live on the bank?

Boat dweller or live on the bank?

155 members have voted

  1. 1. Mrsmelly asserted earlier that most of us here live on the bank rather than on our boats. This poll is to get a better idea.

    • I'm a boat dweller
      68
    • I live on the bank
      87

I think Mikes poll is very interesting and a sample of well over 100 from a boat population of 30,000 is not that bad (the statistics pro's can go into detail if they wish).

I suspect its a bigger sample than most political opinion polls. The self selecting error is interesting as much as a limitation.

With about 5000 ccers (mostly liveaboard) from those 30,000 boaters I am surprised by the result. The are many interesting possibilities...

There are an awful lot of non CCing livaboards.

Many leisure boaters doing longer cruisers consider themselves liveaboards (which is quite reasonable).

Liveaboard boaters are massively over represented in the forum.

It might just be that non liveaboards vote as liveaboards because that's what they really want to be, just like lots of tory voters used to claim to be voting labour because that's what they aspired to do but couldn't quite manage to achieve  (in the old days when we had a labour party!)

What a relief that you added those last four words.

Why Athy?  There is a thread on here somewhere discussing the matter. Have I transgressed a 'Rool'? Please advise.

What does a coffeepot as opposed to a teapot on the roof signify?

That the 'swinger' or boat based deviant prefers coffee, the iconography remains similar as I understand it.

The exception being the flagrant roof-top display of traditional eastern European copper coffee boilers which signify the occupants are members of the affluent middle classes and likely to declare 'I'm arriving! I'm arriving!' when indulging in satisfactory coitus.

(Is this OK Athers?)

Surely you don't expect me to actually read a post before disagreeing with it? You are being unreasonable.

I think we should wait Bruce's professional opinion on this!

;)

I think it needs a properly funded research project involving both quantitative and qualitative methods and taking at least two years...

The teapot was originally a membership sign for a female boaters facebook group so that they could recognise each other in real life and wave, but as it now appears to have taken on a more interesting meaning I will revue the future of ours.

Cilla Black used to tell a story about the phone in quiz on Liverpool radio where the question was "Which pop group recently had a hit with The Lion Sleeps Tonight".  The answer was of course "Tight Fit".

"Can you give us a clue" the contestant asks.

"Think of your husband's underpants" says the DJ

She replies "Is it the Dooleys?"
