OK, you can trade her in against the Glennifers, Big end looks in fine order in the picture and the small ends are magnificent! icecream.gif

You will have to chuck a 3LW in as well.

I will warn you about running costs. Fuel consumption although not high has to be good quality fuel you won’t get away with “yah cheap chardoay”. Also ancillaries don’t seem to last long and need constant replacement and change.

an assortment of Listers

and a few others

and I know they're not vintage and have been much discussed but £995 for a new (old stock) engine & box

springy

The Kelvin T3 & T4 have both been on before a few times.

The first 'Lister' is a Petter.

The second one mystifies me.

The third one is really a Ford (although badged Lister, same engine as the Beta BD3), he also has an HW3 for sale:-

There's a 'complete marine' Perkins 4.107 here:-

No pics, though.

And now an RN D4 marinised and with gearbox

$_58.JPG

A tad large for a narrowboat maybe but having said that a JP4 has just been fitted to a new SMH boat.

Russell Newberry DM's were running at well over £10,000 per pot new when I last checked.

Any chance two sensible size narrow boat engines could be made from this one? laugh.png

I wonder if it could be converted to a DM2 (near as dammit) by removing a couple of pistons and con rods...

Giving you the worst of all worlds - a big engine with less power than a twin

Apparently the plan with one of the first historic boats we considered was to put a Russell Newbery DM4 in it. As I understand it the owner of that boat had actually bought (and started to cut up!) another boat, in order to secure the DM4.

I have to say nothing could have fitted in with our idea of what we wanted much less than an overpowered 4 cylinder monster, so we made it very clear if we bought the boat it would not be with that engine.

The person who did eventually buy the boat fitted a 2 cylinder air cooled Lister, so I'm assuming the original owner of the boat may well still be in possession of the DM4, (as well as the half cut up shell it came from!).

Chill, it was supposed to be such a ludicrous suggestion it was faintly amusing...!

I'm chilled. It's a fantasy I've played out in my head before

Like, what could I do with those unused crank throws

4 Grand for a set of pistons and rings just for starters. No thanks....

I paid less for Antelope than this lump. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kelvin-T4-Marine-Engine-/121243379396

As I've said earlier, it's been on ebay several times already & not sold.

Having done quite a lot of work on these engines (T6 & T8), I can well imagine that it has cost that sort of money to rebuild but I can't imagine who would want to buy it.

Also no mention of a gearbox, I seem to remember that earlier ads did mention one (Kelvin RG12, probably)

Given what has been said abour RN prices, maybe someone has bought it as a relatively good value source of parts for a DM2 or DM3? laugh.png

I'm sure your right. Looking at the JP4 the cylinder spacing suggests two JP2's compared with say a JP3 which has a wider cylinder spacing to accommodate the 120° crank.

In any case a good source of rods, pistons, complete heads, fuel filter, crankcase doors etc. for most other JP's.
