C&RT Council

So, who is up for being elected to the C&RT council?

I've just had a letter for nominations. You need to be holding a 12 month license, and be nominated by ten people with a 12 month license.

Surely we could get together and nominate a few people

I think Carl or Alan fincher would be worth votes. After all is said and done, I have utmost respect for both, and would imagine them giving a degree of common sense at any meeting

Ho ho ho, he, he, ha ha ha

Any more jokes anyone?

Laughing aside, this is something we could actually do as a community. Otherwise the nominations will all be for Commodore Bighat from Shiny Knobs Boat Club

Richard

I nominate Richard.

I am genuinely flattered - thank you, and I don't want the responsibility at the moment

There are contributors to this forum that I'd be prepared to nominate.

I think Graham (NB Alnwick) would be a good candidate too

You are not wrong about Commodore shiny knobs. These positions seem to get filled with people who are attracted for all the wrong reasons - self importance and status (generally referred to as the good and the great). However, what we really need are some down to earth boaters with a long term passion for the long term future of the network - and a few relevant skills to bring to the party. As has been said - there must be a few forum members who we could nominate.

Ok joking apart, How does a nominee go about getting the votes to be elected ?

There are enough suitable members in this forum to be nominees and members to ensure they hit the criteria, how is a nominee turned into a CaRT council member.

To be successful it seems to me that you would have to put a lot of time and more importantly MONEY in to promote the right person

I'll do a search to see if the documents are available online

Some stuff here:

http://www.waterscape.com/features-and-articles/features/introducing-the-canal-and-river-trust/the-canal-and-river-trust-council

They are looking for four boat license holders, two boating businesses and an employee of C&RT

Some of this may be quite tricky for us to do. They want an 150 word manifesto from the applicant, and their form signed by the ten nominees - easy for a shiny knob club to do, harder for us

Richard

How much money will the nominee get?

Casp'

From the document:

All members are unremunerated but agreed expenses will be reimbursed

east midlands is short of one at present.

I bet they wouldn't know which way to look if a genuine CC'er was voted on......

That is the kind of thing that we could achieve. My guess is that the voters will be license holders. It may be hard to get through the nomination process, but we have a membership larger than many boat cubs

Just got my letter too. There a quite a few here I would nominate including Graham, Carl and MP. There is a serious possibility to get this bunch of numbskulls and n'er do wells well and truly represented. If we unite around, I dunno, four candidates? then we must have a fair chance of getting some elected. Serious point, I have been an election agent in the past and worked a fair few elections. Democracy is great once you've learned to control it, and I somewhat hesitantly offer those services. Mods, please let me know, is it possible to hide all of a given members posts? Perhaps those before a certain date?

Which bit?

Most of us have proved ourselves capable of 150 words, (OK, OK - I know I seldom limit myself to 150 words!)

Even with the usual forum animosities, finding 10 boat owners prepared to nominate at least some of the less argumentative forum members really surely shouldn't be that hard, should it ?

Or do you mean actually getting appointed ?

I agree, this really is something we should all take an interest in.

When is the cut off date for nominations? As I want to be able to have the option to support someone if someone from here stands, but my licence is only a short term one and expires in Jan, from whence I will be getting a 12 month one. Will that be too late for me to support someone's nomination?

I got the letter today as well.

I think it would be great if this forum nominated someone (I am not volunteering). I would be happy to be one of the sponsors though.

If you have not had the letter yet ,the voting will in February via a web site , SMS, or post, and is being run by the Electoral Reform Society.
