  1. Utter clap trap, most modern boat alternators charge at above this rate. You obviously have no understanding of sealed battery technology (if it can be called that)
  2. Noting the logo on your profile :- IS THIS THE OFFICIAL POSITION OF THE NATIONAL MARINE ELECTRONICS ASSOCIATION ON THE SUBJECT?
  3. Now that really isn't a nice way to communicate to anyone, especially to someone who is trying to show you that all you say may not be received in the best light. I feel this could be falling on deaf ears. Others will make their own mind up
  4. See me old mate ST, others have a similar view to your problem. You just need to pull your neck in ROFLFAO Just seen your earlier post:- Yes of course I am Gibbo er not. Did he make you see the error of your ways too lol
  5. Oh dear, and you are supposedly in business on your own account. Wishing you happy days, somehow I think you are going to need all the help you can get.
  6. Sorry station tug IT IS Absolutely ALL OVER THE INTERNET, google Gs controls in 2 months and up will pop your innocent post. Disconnecting a faulty (assumption) voltmeter is hardly going to render your boat unusable. I have
  7. Hi station tug, GS controls are a well respected company, don't you think it more sensible to have a chat with Gary and see if he can resolve your problem, without splashing all over the internet??
  8. Ok joking apart, How does a nominee go about getting the votes to be elected ? There are enough suitable members in this forum to be nominees and members to ensure they hit the criteria, how is a nominee turned into a CaRT council member. To be successful it seems to me that you would have to put a lot of time and more importantly MONEY in to promote the right person
  9. I nominate The Guitar Doctor Running for cover
  10. Absolutely agree. But hurry there are not many good ones left!
  11. Thats exactly why I suggest using a proper facility with the right equipment in my edit! Not got a clue, I didn't intimate you had said anything of the sort!
  12. Nooo never, wire brushing polishes the surface, blacking will not adhere. Lots of info to support that fact on the web. ETA a good facility with a suitable high powered pressure washer will not leave any flakey paint to have to deal with.
  13. The boat is new? and only in the water in April/May ? Rusty spots/areas are common, mill scale falling away and leaving bare areas to rust. It can take up to 3 blackings for the mill scale to be rid of.
  14. Not rocket science, your boat should be swinging a 17x10. Don't believe me? ask Crowthers or Beta themselves.
  15. Hi Lewis I doubt if it is anything more than the other good people on here have suggested, belt tension. These micro vee belts need to be tensioned a bit more than a standard vee belt. They should "ping" when flicked with the fingers. It certainly sounds like a combination of under tensioned belt and alternator working hard after a good days house work . Sometimes these belts can be a bit squeaky even when properly adjusted, a dosing of Talcum powder can sometimes alleviate it for a while. The professional answer is to use Belt Dressing, not expensive and a can will last you a long time.
  16. It's a great shame that guys and girls in the industry know who the \/\/ankers are, there is a network out there of decent and honest boat builders. Unfortunately we can't tell the man in the street about these criminals and if we could it would be seen as sour grapes or such like. Particularly when someone would pop up and sing the praises of the builder that was being maligned to the detriment of the person trying to warn the public.
  17. Hi, we have a 70cm automatic dish on our boat (not the self tracking type) I agree they are not the best roof adornment on a narrowboat. It certainly is a case where size matters (although I have seen in other posts my opinion is in the minority here) I have been using this system for 18 months and the only time it has ever failed to get a picture is when the satellite line of sight is obscured. Once connected rocking the boat has no detrimental effect, irrespective which way the dish is pointing from the axis of the boat, the mooring lines do not to be as tight as a drum to achieve this either. I am pretty sure this is down to the software that actually seeks and locks on to the satellite. A pal on another boat has the same system but with an 80cm dish, his performs even better. Before "the chosen few" start..... I am not selling this product merely tying to give the OP some information directly from experience not supposition. Regards IBB
  18. Hi Chris Aga do a small ( 600 ish wide) unit that will fit nicely in a boat, I have seen full size versions fitted too. There is a possible down side to your cheap fuel source, using one of these stoves in summer will still generate the oodles of heat they do in the winter. Hope this helps
  19. Hi, you really have no worries as to the route / final route of the fuel line to your diesel boat heater / engine pre heater with regard to shut down. All units, Webasto, Mikuni, and the best unit Eberspacher all have controlled shut down sequences where the 1st to be shut off is the fuel to allow the purge cycle to commence. It is extremely important to ensure any combustion unit is installed correctly however, a far greater concern for someone who isn't sure about the fuel feed is .... are you sure about the exhaust and ventilation requirements e.t.c., the former problem the unit doesn't work the latter you could be dead ! Self build, D.I.Y. etc. are all good for the boating fraternity in general, it is an economical way of getting / maintaining a boat of your own. That said, a few quid, in relevant terms spent having a professional install / maintenance done on a few key items can work out cheaper and safer in the long run. Before the idiots on here kick off at my outrageous post, just like to say I have no interest in the fitting or maintenance of boats ancillary items. I do though have a great respect for the safety of fellow boaters.
  20. Hi, most small stoves, i.e. the ones suitable for installing in a boat can be angled on the hearth. A great stove at a reasonable price ' note we have no commercial connections with aarrow ' is the Becton Bunny which will happily keep in all night on a small fuel load and is a max 5 kw output, which would toast the a--e off you if you were to fire it up to that capacity. The further plus with this stove is the mechanical interlock which prevents inadvertently putting the stove in an over firing mode. Hope this is helpful.
  21. Lots of silly replies as usual, here hopefully are some answers to your questions. a> As a previous post mentions Ecover liquid is the way to go. b> It is better to wash on the go, you obviously are talking about having a washer dryer on board, then it makes sense to be on the move at the same time as running the engine ( assume engine mounted generator) . Static running of engines is another topic. c> Them drying balls work great ! Hope this is of some help to you.
  22. ROFL even types as a scouser Web site will be updeted soon
  23. The usual culprits aside from the true criminals in this business are building 2 or 3 boats at a time when they don't have the business acumen to build a lego house, they think they are doing great with all this money pouring in from the 2 or 3 sources. When things start getting tight as they inevitably do ( usually because they are 1 working too cheap 2 are just incompetent in business) then they start spreading the funds around, quite easy when you have 2 or 3 boats in the workshop in various stages . The poor punters don't have a clue of who owns what. We build one at a time, title is passed on at each stage payment so our customers own the boat not us, no confusion, just a quality product built by english craftsmen and always delivered on time.
  24. Hi Robbo, the installation method is really just common sense of trying to avoid potential air locks by keeping the pipe work level on the main runs as far as possibly. We usually incorporate either a radiator or a heated towel rail in the bathroom (usually too small a space to provide adequate out put from fin rads) this helps as being a high point in the system which is easily bled of any accumulated air. Please note that this is only at initial commisioning, once the installation is up and running we have no problems with air or anything else. Possibly the best tip I can give is to fill the system and leave it for at least 24 hours before firing the boiler, most of the trapped air in the system will have found its way to the header tank of bath rad. Hope this is of help, if you have more specific problems I would be glad to try and help.
