Well, whatever it is it cannot be that serious if they only want to restrict it to a 'few friends'.

London, Insular lot, let 'em get on with it.

I guess BLUN could always copy N paste the content if it was actually important....

Yes there are only 4.1K members who can read it and is it in London?

"My boat is stuck at Chertsey weir" is a very laid-back way to describe the situation. The sort of help necessary is rather specialised too.

I have no idea what your experience of boating in London is like -I can only speak for myself- but Ive found (in general) London Boaters to be a very friendly and helpful bunch.

Ive often tied up for the night and the new neighbours will come and introduce themselves. Maybe its because they (another generalisation) tend to be a bit younger and not so grumpy as some of us old gits out there on the system..

Funnily enough, also in my own experience,

the one and only time Ive had my stuff nicked in London was by some scrote who crept on the boat while I was dozing on the sofa.

No chatting involved..

I thought that too.

"My boat has sunk and the wreck found sucked onto Chertsey weir" seems more accurate.

Also, Chertsey is not London. Nor is The Thames a canal.

There is a lot of GRP scrap in the River. Not saying this is necessarily scrap but GRP is an awkward material to dispose of and it really is showing up all over the place now.

At the end of the day it actually isn't particularly difficult to make sure that a Boat doesn't come adrift. You can use things like chains or wire ropes as a security backup should ropes break. Put a long thin chain with wired shackles to something secure.

It might not stop it sinking or going onto the land if the Boat is unattended but it is likely to help prevent it ending up on a weir. If there is nothing secure to tie up to then its not a sensible place to moor.

Recovering a Boat which is still connected to the riverbank is more straightforward than dealing with something stuck to a weir.

There are times on here that the lack of sympathy astonishes and depresses me.

In this case I think it stems from the sheer monumental disconnect between the very reasonable-sounding request for assistance, and the fact that the boat is fully submerged in deep water, stuck on a Thames weir and already a total loss.
