  1. Try bramblewick boats, they just have one little boat they rent out at altofts. Very fairly priced
  2. If it's the usual above the top rubbing strake vent I would certainly be blocking them up, leave a engine board cracked
  3. Very common in the car world, I can't imagine boat / plant engines are much different.
  4. Copper nuts for manifolds usually
  5. Surely the overheads (and general skill level?) of a boat builder will be similar to garage prices, 50-120 PH +vat. Discount somewhat for the amount of hours they are selling in one hit...40-80 seems reasonable. Bear in mind , even a minimum wage employee costs a business the best part of £16 a hour now.
  6. Aston is lovely, the laundry prices are absolutely mental though
  7. Where the cold water connects on the back of the washer is a solenoid Valve ( with gause) If you take the top of the washer off all will become obvious. It's likely gummed up / not opening properly. https://amzn.to/4cdph3A
  8. Apparently a unmarked one, it's been leaking for year's and had a clay bund around it. It wasn't that bad when we were all asked to move, late afternoon it finally gave way (without the stop planks fitted)
  9. Stop planks failed at bridge 52, they have just managed get them in at 51 now (6.30pm). Does anybody know if it's the whole pound up to Bugsworth that's drained or have they managed to get planks in between here and there? 10. Doesn't the bosley feeder come in by the sanitary station?
  11. It's been leaking a few days, running like a river this morning. Stop planks yet to go in. All the boats that wanted out are out it seems.
  12. It will never open, que several years of can kicking

    Pay at pump?

Surely selling red diesel "pay at pump" can't work realistically, given the marina is burdened by hmrc to record details/ require declarations from purchasers. Bear in mind the declaration is your's to make. Maybe if they sold white diesel
  14. Also the Shroppie "winding holes" are not subject to EOG charges. There is case law to the contrary of CRTs ability to charge for EOG moorings (on some canals) as the right to moor boats was included in the canal enabling acts, these still stand with the exception of the public right of navigation which was subsequently Abolished. BW vs Yardley Gobion is a very interesting case, part of the BW argument was Infact that the right to moor boats (against the bank / create a layby) was included in the enabling act. The case would be a interesting read, good look finding it.

  16. The trip boat is craned from a council car further upstream for its yearly I inspection
  17. Response from CRT - I sought further clarification from our Principal Engineer to provide you with a better understanding of our position, his feedback is as follows: The issues around lock 2 of the Dee Branch and the Dee Branch as a whole are not purely driven by asset condition / asset management. As most are aware, the Dee Branch has been historically a seldom used part of the Shropshire Union Canal. The access windows onto the river are very small, as the river here is tidal and following works undertaken by the Trust, many years ago, at the entrance, it requires very high tides/river conditions to achieve navigation onto the river, and these conditions are potentially unsafe; i.e. We would close the Weaver Navigation / Ribble Link etc under 'strong stream conditions' for the magnitude of tide/river flow required for boats to pass between the Dee Branch and the River Dee. Further, since completion, the presence of the Environment Agency's flood defences, installed near to Lock 3 make the navigable window even smaller. i.e. the very high tide conditions required for navigation present risk to flooding to properties and hence the defences would generally be put in place on the tides required for access onto the river. Discussions previously concluded that the investment required to make the Dee Branch Navigable (undoing the historic works at the entrance lock) were too great for what the Trust could afford and the priority for undertaking any such works (given historic usage) was also very low, hence, the closure at Lock 2. Please note, the replacement head gates at Lock 2 that have since been fitted were installed to protect the moorings between lock 1 and 2. We will update the online notice to reflect this.
  18. Out of interest if you don't mind, how much and how many moons ago?
  19. You need to check the new batteries with a multimeter, untill then you won't know if it's a battery or boat issue. Its more than likely a slack / corroded connection on your boat system. They won't charge properly either with a fault in the wiring.
  20. London live boards don't run their engine's for power. They have solar to dribble a knackered lead acid up to 20 percent charge for lighting and take a "jackery" to work / coffee shop / unprotected outlet to charge up to for power to their phones. They don't watch TV down there, they are usually busy flytipping white gloss across their interiors. Unsure what the brother Khan is worried about.

  22. Any reason / stories attached to this?
  23. Most of which no longer boat and haven't for years, there is some very valuable input and information here though. Newer topics very rarely contain anything actual boat related, the most popular topics are the ones arguing over CRT etc. The older threads on the other hand are a absolute gold mine of information. The new member, single post then 3 pages of dissection and arguments of what exactly they have written and what could possibly maybe might mean confuses me, just wait for them to clarify what they meant...
  24. Excuse the screenshots, it's the only way I could get the file size down for the forum. These were photos taken today. It is a shame the iwa still list it as a silver propellor, and the CRT seems to pretend it's still navigable. The gates and paddle gear looked In good order. I did read somewhere new gates were fitted a few years ago? Unsure why the bottom gates on the tidal lock are missing.
  25. To answer my own question - Both top and bottom Gates are chained shut on the second lock down the branch (after the moorings). The pound between lock 2 and the staircase locks looks navigable and clear, as does the lift bridge look operable. There is stop planks in at the top of the staircase locks, as well as the flood defence ones between the locks. The bottom lock is as was. Id say it's been in its present condition since the stoppage in 2021? Given nobody seems to be making a fuss, I suspect it is as good as abandoned without saying it's abandoned and dealing with the bad press associated with such a statement.
