  4. Mine were stainless steel runners with steel hatch. Changed the runners with the HDPE and had a new hatch made from aluminium. Now opens with one finger.
  5. A crop from the pic. - Aylesbury Arm GU Lock 4 25Apr2018 Sadly I couln't distinguish a kowhai from any other vegetation. ...and a view from t'other direction that day 25Apr2018 Crop of earlier pic 25Apr2016. Elaine pushing the gate by the same plant and here's another yellow plant below the lock from the 25Apr2018 pic ...

  7. Tufnol is a resin composite thing and seems to work well. Low friction, long lasting. Seems to have an indefinite lifespan as a bonus. Have washboards and pulley blocks made out of it and they're 40 odd years old.
  8. Me too, except the fixed slide is stainless steel not brass...
  9. There used to be an Elsan attached to the Golden Fleece pub that is next to the canal. Has it been decommissioned? There has been at least one thread on here about it
  10. I have that on the underside of the hatch that runs on the brass

  13. Sounds like you need to balance the system so that the hot water flow from the Webasto is shared between the radiator and calorifier circuits. If your radiators have manual valves at one end and lockshield valves at the other, with the manual valves fully open, try closing the lockshield valves a little, starting with the radiator closest to the Webasto and then on those progressively further away. The aim is to get the pipes leading to the calorifier to be at a similar temperature to those feeding the radiators.
  14. What's the weird-looking stick for??!!

  17. Hi all, it looks like this is now sorted. I bled the system, which didn’t take much to be honest and re-run the unit with all the radiators turned off. After 40 minutes the water coming out of the hot tap was like lava, so it appears that I now need to turn the rads off to get the water to the required temp which is no great shakes. From now on if I’m just after hot water I’ll close off the rads and bang the Webasto on for 30 or so minutes. Thank you for all the suggestions and advice.
  18. HDPE. I found a company online who would cut a small sheet into strips. Then drilled and countersunk with holes tapped into the steel underneath with some Sticks Like S*** for good measure.
  19. Again, I have never suggested how much extreme greenies know or don't know. I have never put forward a straw man's argument. I have not put forward an argument at all in this case. You keep reading too much into what I say. Which I'm baffled by, as you seem to be too intelligent for that. I only said that certain people would like Mr Jupiter's use of a single term, and would use it for their favourite items (in this case, batteries and electricity). I've also said we are probably all guilty of similar. I have also never suggested how much I do or do not know. Again, reading too much. It was one very simple statement, which is not untrue, and somehow has been taken way out of proportion. But if it helps, we will take Greta out of the extreme camp, even if she does come across as such at times. But, like it or not, the extremes do exist. On all sides I will add. One of which, I most definitely am not. I'm nicely in the middle, looking at it from all sides. Oh, and give me HVO at the pumps (of which I can only find a couple) and I would fill my car up with HVO all day long, despite the extra cost. Although I would like a better idea of where it comes from.

  24. My back hatch moves on brass sliders. These have become buckled by rust on the steel below. I don't particularly want to remove, straighten and replace them after treating the rust. Some years ago there was a topic on here about replacing the brass with polymer sliders (or some such) but I can't find it now. What are peoples thoughts about replacement sliders, their sourcing, advantages, disadvantages etc?
