bottle Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Hi Carl I think it has been all said but congratulations and well done on your magnificent efforts to save them.
DHutch Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Indeed a very good result for Lucy, i trust you will keep us posted on her progress anyway?
stewey Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Carl, after all your troubles and tribulations I am delighted to hear such good news about Lucy. I hope, like other forum members, that we will be able to see progress photos of Lucy's restoration. And the sun shined today as well so hopefully you had a really great weekend on the lifeboat! Stewey
Chris-B Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Carl Just read the news, well done for ALL the effort and time put in to find somebody who was prepared to take on the rebuild of LUCY Chris n Lise
churchward Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 That's good news. It's always a bit sad passing those two boats so great news one at least is going to be saved. I guess it is going ot be quite a while before we see here in new form.
sueb Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 We came past Usk & Lucy today. Both are in the same place and in the same condition that they were in when we saw them last year. Is there any more news? Sue
Denis R Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 (edited) A framework of girders is taking shape on the 'hard' by the Turn at the moment, which I assume is Lucy's supporting cradle coming together? Edited July 30, 2008 by Denis R
carlt Posted July 30, 2008 Author Report Posted July 30, 2008 We came past Usk & Lucy today. Both are in the same place and in the same condition that they were in when we saw them last year. Is there any more news?Sue Considering that, this time last year Usk was tarped with a liveaboard conversion underneath I suspect it has deteriorated somewhat. She's also moved forward, by about 40'. If you read this thread you'll get the update. A framework of girders is taking shape on the 'hard' by the Turn at the moment, which I assume is Lucy's supporting cradle coming together? Yes it is. I'm not sure when she'll be lifted out, exactly, because holidays are occurring. I understand she is to be lifted at the marina and driven the short distance to Pete's yard, between Midland Swindlers and Tony Redshaw's.
Tim Lewis Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 A framework of girders is taking shape on the 'hard' by the Turn at the moment, which I assume is Lucy's supporting cradle coming together? Some pictures here. Tim
alan_fincher Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Some pictures here. Tim Very interesting Tim. However I do think if someone is going to lift and re-use somebody else's photographs, then the least they should do is to acknowledge the original photographer. The last one on the page is mine, but another is from a slide that I had borrowed, and the photographer might be surprised to see his work turning up elsewhere. If I use someone else's picture, I'm very careful to say that I have. Alan

alan_fincher Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I don't think he did, I think he just supplied a link to another web site Sorry, I'm not suggesting Tim has reused the pictures, but the new owner of Lucy seems to have taken copies of the images, to host elsewhere. I can't get too upset over this - I put mine in the public domain in the first place, but I think photographers should be credited, when known. Alan

I can't get too upset over this - I put mine in the public domain in the first place, but I think photographers should be credited, when known. Alan I'm afraid this is my fault, Alan. I have, over the years, compiled, for my own use, a fairly complete photographic record of Lucy's history. I have never published or passed on any of these pictures but I did make them available to Pete Boyce, as I thought they would be useful to Lucy's new owner. I did, however, make it clear that, as I did not own the copyright for many of them, he shouldn't publish them. He left me assured but obviously chose to ignore my request. I can only apologise and offer to contact Pete to either ask him to remove the images or credit them appropriately, whichever you prefer.
alan_fincher Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Carl, It's no big deal, and despite what you say, I'd say not your fault, if you asked the new owner not to publish. I'm perfectly happy that he uses my image, and I don't think the person who's slide I borrowed will get upset either. If you are in touch with him, then the "in retirement" one at the end is mine, and the rather badly copied slide of her paired with Renfrew, leaving Braunston, should be credited to Phil Quick, (I kid you not!). I'm not worked up over it, but always think its a common courtesy - some of my pics have ended up on the excellent Sickle website, and I'm rather flattered by their inclusion.
Liam Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I've been in the same sort of situation... one of my better pictures (it's highly unusual for me to take a half decent picture!) appeared on one of my preferred boaty websites... at first I was quite shocked, and wondered how they had got hold of it until I realised I had published it on my website! Anyway, I made what I now consider to be a tongue in cheak, but what I now consider to have appeared to be an off hand remark on here, and shortly later I got a PM from the owner of the site apologising, and offering to either remove it or to put my name alongside it. I didn't want it removing and didn't want it to be named as I wasn't bothered at all really, but that's just me. As the picture if for no commercial gain, and is used as part of an archive which is quite important in this case due to the recent history which surrounds the boat, I can't really see any problem with it but again that's only my opinion. Edited to add that I received the HNBOC newsletter earlier today and enjoyed reading the article on Lucy. Very interesting and I wish Pete every success with his plans.

I had an even better one where one of my photos ended up as a pub sign. In Norfolk the bird the heron is known as a Harnser, In Sutton near Stalham there is a pub called The Harnser and the brewery had a new sign fitted, Lo and behold it was a picture of my narrowboat "Harnser" nicked from www.harnser.info. The locals were more up in arms about it than I was, no way did they want their heron replaced by a narrowboat so it was not long before it was removed, however I did go there for lunch and get some photos of it.
Keeping Up Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I got a bit fed up when I found that a travel agent was using several pictures from my website as illustrations in their on-line brochure. Not only did they not ask or credit me, they simply hyperlinked to them from their pages so I was doing the hosting and providing the bandwidth for them. I did laugh when I changed all the filenames and their on-line brochure no longer worked!
Liam Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Allan, very conservative of you... As I remember reading elsewhere, where in a similar position, somebody replaced the pictures with erm, lets just say inappropriate ones... which of course then were on the website for all to see.

Its gotta be done. - Thats also been several cases of, as time very large and reputable, companys taking photos from flickr and using them for the own goos without permission on credit. Still. On with news? Hows lucy? Daniel
Liam Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 According to the article in the HNBOC rag as mentioned earlier, its on schedule. The lift out is scheduled for March.. can't be done sooner as the spot in the yard isn't available until then if I remember rightly. It did mention about plugging the holes in the boat, getting it out of the mud and maybe a few test lifts too? Would be interesting to hear how they got on.
