  1. It may well be worth your while buying the book "Going It Alone" by Colin Edmondson. This is available from the IWA bookshop (and other retailers) as follows: https://www.waterways.org.uk/shop/product_details?id=531 Stewey
  2. Have a look at Waterways World boat planner: http://www.waterwaysworld.com/design/ Stewey

  4. Just a thought. C&RT had an agreement with the company now liquidated, QMP. So why should C&RT not reinstate the online moorings they "sacroficed" when they made this agreement which has been ended by PL liquidating that company. By letting these out over a number of years they would gradually be clawing back part of the lost £180k. Stewey

  8. Coincidentally with this sad topic, I noticed that todays Amazon "Deal of the Day" is the Fireangel CO-9D Digital Sealed for Life Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Reduced from £29.99 to £15.99. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00441S9GS/ref=gbsl_tit_c-1_6707_4998e18a?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0MYHV9AG8V3GYQYEAW06&pf_rd_i=350613011&pf_rd_p=460016707 Stewey

  10. A couple of years or so ago we were cruising a section of the BCN and decided, after looking at a map of the BCN, to go up the Ridgacre branch for a short way and then turn at a winding hole part way along. Big mistake. We got caught in the reeds and it took a couple of friendly natives using our ropes, myself using the pole and my wife on the tiller to get us back to the branch entrance. The water was absolutely foul from polution. Would hate to have fallen in! Wikipedia has an interesting article on the Ridgacre Branch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridgacre_Branch Stewey
  11. Thanks for posting this, Escape, and for the great pics. We have just rented a cottage in the Peak District so we will look to enjoy a cruise on this boat. Hopefully by late September the coots nestling in the winding hole will have departed! I have always liked this spot at Cromford with Sir Richard Arkwrights great mill in the background. Never thought there would be a chance to have a narrowboat in the picture as well!! Thanks again. Stewey
  12. And, of course, there is the cross river ferry between Nelson Dock Pier in Surrey Quays and Canary Wharf Pier to worry about just downstream of Limehouse Marina. There is a guide to the various Thames Ferry services on the TFL website here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/river-guide.pdf Stewey
