THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH May 17
THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

Rough costs for converting an ex-hire boat to a livaboard
Rough costs for converting an ex-hire boat to a livaboard

Not at all -- just pointing out actual measurements on an actual standard Surecal calorifier as fitted in many boats. Plus how long I've found water heating to take -- from engine or diesel heater -- on multiple hire boats, which I assume were in the real world. If yours is different then that's good news -- for you... 😀

If they have an inverter with remote control/access (e.g. Victron + router) -- yes. If they don't (the majority of boats, who often seem to consider such modern technology to be the spawn of the devil) -- no.

I which case I'd say there is something badly wrong with your fridge. Mine easily freezes stuff in the main cabinet if I have it turned up too much. Although checking it now it's measuring 7c which surprised me. I was expecting 4 or 5c.

And submarines, and (relatively low-speed) ships and boats -- of which a narrowboat is a good example.

Mine worked fine on two different boats, never had to worry about heating times or short cycling as in both boats there was one rad on in the bathroom. Both with standard calorifiers with 15mm coils. All the theory in the world doesn't trump practical experience no matter what is said on here. If you feel this is a personal attack please feel free to report me 🫣

I've just checked my fridge temp, and its still at 10C, which is barely cool, not running, its nearly empty, I moved it up a setting, but im going to try it without the freezer compartment, its removable. My fresh food arrives today, so it will have to be kept at 5C, but micromanaging a fridge is an absolute faff. Its essentially an expensive coolbox.

Probably not, because if you buy second-hand after three years or so you get the same car at about half the price, with many years of life left in it -- which is why so many people do this, let those who value a new numberplate and the latest model take the financial hit of buying new. The UK car market is also still distorted by company cars and fleet sales as opposed to private buyers, and that means a bias towards bigger and more expensive cars with more bells and whistles.

I certainly would, because it would be an investment in long term personal transport with minimal total running costs. To be honest am not sure if that is true now, because I suspect that I only have another few years of safeish driving, so probably not worth the investment. The money could go towards household solar.
