I remember waiting at Stoke Bruerne end of Blisworth tunnel for a 'wide boat'. This was about 20 yars ago and these dreadful widebean things were not common. We waited, and waited, what would it be? Finally a 8ft wide GRP cruiser emerged from the tunnel.

Probably this one, attempting to descend the Northampton flight the other day!!

Presumably the flush from the discharge of the lock was insufficient to shift it.  Did you then assist more directly?

Presumably this is the one I passed which was moored in a very short lock pound a mile or two away, taking up more than half the width of the canal

still, I guess if anything similarly wide wants to come the other way they'll get a CRT notification :)

Received two emails from C&RT today.

1) Fallen tree between Braunston Top lock and the tunnel, wide boats advised not to navigate dated today.

2) Wide beam passage booked through the tunnel for tomorrow.

Cheers Graham

I bet that will be the 14 ft monster that was moored opposite the Boat House in Braunston yesterday.  Presumably they went up the locks today.

Notice has been updated this morning - the bit about wide-beams has mysteriously vanished - I wonder if someone at CRT is lurking on this board or perhaps someone more knowledgable came along.

Interesting navigation restriction on the Northern Oxford. They're rebuilding Bridge 84 which is on the part used by widebeams. It says "Once scaffold is erected, single passage of boats only under the bridge will be possible."

This seems to imply the expect two boats ( or more) to go through the bridge simultaneously.

Do they mean single narrow boats I wonder? It is a restriction of about 3 months.

Theres a few in the marina (not sure they move much), and some may be booked in for lift out and blacking.

To be fair the bridge has been leaning a bit for a while.
